Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
I haven’t… when we will stop acting like an ostrich and start FACING such morons.
leaving FB is NOT a solution to this issue.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
There will always be haters out there; in every single thing in life. No one is going start loving islam because few thousand people deactivated their accounts.
Islam should be in our hearts; its a way of life. Its about surviving the temptations in this world because those who ONLY care about this world will have NOTHING in ackhira.
The point is we should care less if people don’t like our deen. We have zaini sakooniat that these kafirs crave. Our Allah rabul alimeen is so benficient and rahman and raheem; this should be enough for us. It is for me (alhumdullilah).

Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
Dude, seriously, that group got so much popularity from the retard that made that group and the morons that joined it. There's thousands of anti-Islam websites up online. You can't make it stop. It's freedom of speech. :)
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
i dont even have time to go to fb, whereas unjoining fb is rather a seperate issue ![]()
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
There is so much anti Islam crap out there these days, it would be next to impossible to avoid... You might also want to delete you YouTube accounts aswell in that case..
Stick to GupShup... Here if anyone bashes Islam, its ok, cause its your won people:)
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
Boycotting can't be the response to everything, and boycotting has to be done in a particular way. People have very strong varied opinions about Islam - some positive, some negative - and what the fudge are you going to do? To avoid it all, you really need to dig a hole in the ground and bury yourself in it (I admit that is a wise choice for some chichoras out here), however, its not practical. If someone opens a negative group on facebook, that doesn't mean you have to be part of it. But what do you see? You see a whole sea of muslims JOINING the group, thereby adding to its popularity, and thereby making some loser dweeb out somewhere in nowhereville get really popular across the world.
Good job guys.
Muslims. Creating a better image, one mistake at a time.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
^ your negativity is pissing me off.
Noone cares for your stupid sarcasm. Make your point in a proper tone and get the hell out of the thread!
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
right so counter sarcasm with outright rudeness.
nicely done.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
^ believe me, that wasn't even close to rude. It was merely a stern remark.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
I am impressed :)
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
I don't have facebook or myspace account. Can't get time to come GS, can't afford any other forum or community.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
The whole point of a protest is to make a point that gets noticed. There are all different kinds of protesting, like picketing, hunger strike etc. It all depends on where/when/how you protest. On FB the thing that would matter is traffic and the amount of ppl that deactivate, hence this project.
One can always go to more, higher effective ways, like taking a stand, facing off ppl etc. but those usually may not have the best of results. This is supposed to be a peaceful idea to make it count.

Extremism would get you nowhere. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath and look around you. Are you happy?
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
TofiBaba, boycotting facebook would be a reasonable thing to do if FACEBOOK was behind it. Facebook is just a public platform. If you wanted, you could post antagonistic views about other cultures, and facebook would not close down your group. The culprit wasn't facebook, it was the teenage boy who began the group. You can't start picking fights with every individual that says they think Islam is a bad religion, because guess what? A LOT of people do!
That's like if someone comes out with a mike on a stage and starts speaking to the public about how bad Islam is, and then you launch a strike against the company that made the stage that speaker is standing on.
By boycotting facebook, you're also boycotting all the positive groups that try to show muslims are good people. You discourage muslims from a venue in which they can network with one another and form interest groups of their own.
I don't see boycotting FB useful, and neither do most of the other muslims that...guess what? Are still on it!

Jis din aap ne koi dhanki baat ki, there won't be any negativity. And that goes for your fundoo emotionally-triggered friends as well. Just what we need. A world filled with muslims that think and act the way you do. No wonder we have problems. Someone says somethign you disagree with, and this is your reaction? And then you expect people to respect you and your beliefs?
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
^ mautharma, i did not post the above because i disagreed with you. Infact, I 100% agree with you. Boycotting facebook won't accomplish a damn thing. What I got irritated at was the sarcasm I found in that and about 85% of your other posts. Seems like your pissed about something and just 'cause you're learned/have good command of the english language you take it out on threads here on GS.
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
Usually undesireables are on public forums. I work for a company that has licensing properties that are illegally used by these kinds of people. I work for a children specific brand and these guys are like leeches, taking whaver channels they can get their hands on.
Facebook maybe a public platform but it does have some rules. Violaters are sent their way. Why would it hurt to if we can make a point (by boycotting) to close down one group. Would it hurt ur FB profile to be offline for one week? How does it hurt you in any way?
Re: How many people deactivated their Facebook account?
I use facebook to keep up with my proffessional contacts. I know a lot of people don't use it for those reasons, but I do. I will not shut down an account that keeps me in touch with others on various projects we're working on, and helps us advertise our projects and gather support. I've made a number of contacts professionally, by connecting with interdisciplinary people at my institution using that website. That's like if someone were to start using their school email account for wrong things, and then everyone boycotting the email system. You can't boycott something that is a tool and in and of itself is harmless. You would do much better by writing to facebook and starting up intellectual dialogue about "how far can you go with venues like facebook to gather hatred against a group of people".
I have always said time and again, the best weapon we will ever have as a community is our pen. We need to write, not pick up weapons and certainly not to use inflammatory techniques. Boycotting facebook is not just inflammatory. Its plain useless. If it were a good idea to begin with, you'd see so many more muslims joining in. But most muslims are still on facebook, and your movement has failed to take hold. You can say its weakness in our faith. I think its just an ineffective idea that no one really cares about. Your energy would be better spent raising positive awareness about muslims.
Not to mention the fact that Ma'ashallah most muslims are patient and tolerant enough to see a griping teenager spitting out profuse hatred against them, and maturely ignore it. If I start boycotting things for every irate testosterone-hyped teenager on the internet, then shoot me. I might as well be a dead muslim, because that's just about useful as wasting my time with stubborn teenagers.

Your personal hatred towards the way I write is irrelevant. That's something you can communicate to me via PM and I will happily ignore it.
