How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

How many of you are proud of your roots? This is an important question for many of us.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

I am very proud of my roots that go all the way back to Africa.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

Me.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

What's there to be proud of?
It's not like we choose to be from any given country. It was just what God decided. I don't see how you can be proud of something you had nothing to do with. . . ?
And besides,
What does it matter what country we come from?
We're all human. . .
Countries are just man made boundaries.
I think that's what you meant by roots but if i'm wrong, lemme know.

We should all be proud of our actions I guess. . if we do good. . . and even then isn't it better to be humble?

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

:omg:

no, i have nothing to be proud. I am a Human, just like anyone - I walk the earth, eat, sleep, waste time on GS, etc… One should not be proud of its roots, afterall, it is the humanity that matters!, Not Paki, CDN, US, Brit, brown, black, yellow, or green (aliens) :p.

:k:
exactly! (nia you should post more often)

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

what are you talking about i practically have no life dont you see i have over 10k post here and been here for over 5 yrs now … yikes…

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

I am not so proud of my roots at the moment...they have started turning gray and I refuse to admit it.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

What you are talking about is all ideals and never true in practical life. Are you not proud of your ancestors, your mother tongue, culture, religion or ethnicity? These are your roots. If you are not then it's your choice. But those who say that they're proud of humanity are in fact fooling themselves. When the whole world is divided into exploiters and exploited, then how you can talk about humanity. Who in the world follows humanity? Human speicies by itself is a selfish creature.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

:omg: let me re-phrase:

nia, you should post more often “good quality” posts.
[dravid got out!]

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

I'm not sure if proud is really the word. But for me it's being more at peace with myself and my Desiness. About understanding where your ancestors came from, what they did so you could have a better life.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

i consider myself canadian… (not a proud one) but i consider myself more canadian than pakistani (birth) or indian (roots)

enough said

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

Actually, if more people thought like me, the world would be a much better place. And I think ppl are starting to think like that, look at this thread, there are at least two people who answered you the same way I did, that we are all human. So yes, while the world is divided right now and it may always be divided, i don't have to think like those who choose to divide. And, I don't owe my allegiance to any man-made country. And while humans may be inherently selfish, it is something that can be overcome and I can strive to not be that way. that doesn't mean that i never make choices that aren't selfish, it means i can try to not do that and no it's not possible to always be unselfish, but you just try to be a better person by helping others less fortunate, etc.

I don't see a reason to be proud of something that I didn't do . . . I didn't pick to be born in the United States and have parents who were born in pakistan. I didn't pick to be a girl. I didn't pick to be the color i am or the ethnicity i am. . . etc. I see no reason to be proud of this stuff. I thank God that he has made me who I am and I hope that he guides me to becoming a better a person Ameen.

And my ancestors, well, i love them. And so therefore I love all of humanity because really like Nia said above, it all comes down to Hazrat Adam (pbuh)and Hazrat Hawwa (pbuher).

Now if you want to talk culture, i would say that i like parts of the american culture and i like parts of the pakistani culture and i will hopefully take the best from both worlds. I will take the best from my husband's culture as well. In fact, any culture that I come across, I will try to learn from.

As for religion, i thank God I am muslim but i am not PROUD. God doesn't like those who are proud. I prefer to be humble or at least try to be humble.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

I respect your above opinions but let me add something which is no way an assault to anybody's opinion. It's a general statement.

Animals are never proud of their origin. People from underdeveloped societies are never proud of their culture or language. They quickly adopt the culture, language and customs of those whom they consider subconsciously superior. Jewish people, Germans, Japanese are proud of themselves and that's why they have developed themselves to become what they are. Those from underdeveloped countries or developing countries have inferiority complex and they quickly surrender to the dominating culture. Those who struggle for survival will never be proud of their roots.

After getting the replies from the readers in this thread now I understand why Islamic nations get regualarly humiliated in the international arena and why no Islamic nation has developed strong institutions for others to emulate. The opinion in this thread convincingly demonstrates why African and Islamic countries have no say in any world affairs. I am pretty sure most of the respondent in this thread speak English in their homes. Recently I was astonished when I learnt that out of 310 families of my community in Toronto, a whoopping 300 families speak English in their homes. This just demonstartes that Desi language is substandard, desi culture is substandard and that's why nobody has any reason to be proud of his or her roots. And when people have nothing to be proud of then they will talk of humanity or African origin or things like that. Those who consider themselves to be proud Americans should realize that this giant America is being controlled by a tiny Jewish group. I must salute them.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

^Actually, I speak urdu when I'm at my parents home
And when i'm at home, my husband is learning Urdu.

You seem to think that just because I'm not proud of where I come from, I have a inferiority complex and I'm not happy with who I am or I'm not comfortable with who I am. I said earlier that I Thank God for who I am. I still see no reason to be proud of any of that.
I prefer to be humble.
If that makes me an animal, i'm okay with that.

And nowhere did I say that Desi culture is substandard. I said I would take the best . . . not everything in desi culture is good and not everything is bad. that goes for any culture.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

No I am not calling you an animal. I am trying to say that Desi people must be proud of their culture, their language and their origin. They shouldn't surrender to the dominating culture.

Re: How many of you are you are proud of your roots?

I am not surrendering. . .

and i don't think anything in my above posts indicates that. . .

but i don't believe in being proud. . .

I think we need more humble ppl in the world.
