How many of you are proud of your roots?

How many of you are proud of your roots? This is an important question for many of us.

As for me, I am definitely proud of my roots. It’s too precious for me. I take pride in what I am, which includes my ethnicity, my mother tongue and my culture.

But this doesn’t mean that I don’t have respect for other cultures. In fact my most internet friends are from other cultures and it’s really exciting to know other culture and customs. How do you feel guys regarding this question?

Re: How many of you are proud of your roots?

Good for you :k:

Now why does it matter to you how we feel about our roots? If I said nay or yay, would it really change your mind? I surely hope not!

And what did you mean by most internet friends? Do you not know anybody outside the Internet?

Re: How many of you are proud of your roots?

Sal,

I love the fact that I can at least speak and write two different languages. Absolutely cherish my homeland upbringing. I'd have strayed a long time ago, if it weren't for the way I was brought up. Just today while driving to work, I heard an American radio host asking about cricket. Considering everything else that happened, the cricket piece was highlight of my day. :>

So yes I do feel proud about certain things from time to time, but probably not as strongly as you or others do.

It's usually FOBs or uneducated farmers back in the villages who get alll hyped up about these things.

I don't care, I'm not ashamed of my roots and I'm not proud of them, the accomplishments of my forefathers were solely there's, their kin don't have right to take credit for them, I'll make my mark in the world in my own way and I wont tie myself to nonsensical stuff like a lot of our people do. People with greater heritages than ours forget them when they come to this country yet our peoploe want to live the same culture they brought from back home, good values should be kept but people do need to adapt in other ways.
