Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
I got about 20-25 dresses from my mom and 11 in my bareee...and I still havent worn them all in about an yr...instead I ordered some new dresses from Pakistan just recently...because I didnt get longer shirts made back then...I should be wearing like 44-45 inches right now...and all my jahez n bari clothes are 40 or less..which sucks cuz there is some really really nice pieces in there...
My mom was trying to knock some sense into me when I was getting those 20 something outfits that you would get bored of these and would want more even in just an year...and she was absolutely right...I say, stick to 20 outfits max...and you can always get more as style keeps changing...

wow, i knw my bari isn't going to be all that either, but i think my hubby would get upset if i donated without at least wearing them once.
ur husband didn't mind???

I did the same haha. My inlaws gave me sooo many clothes and not everything was according to my style or even the right size. So I kept the pieces I liked and knew I would wear and gave the rest away. I didnt tell hubby because quite frankly I know he wont even care! :)
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
I think getting 100 suits is a bit much, unless you know you will really wear them all within the next 1-3 years at least. I think its good to diversify, get some formal really heavy kaam walay suits, some lighter kaam, some casual, some saris, some gharara etc. Get some unstiched cloth with kaam on it, so you can stitch it later on. Not only do styles change, but your size does too! You dont want to be left with 100 suits that you cant wear! So better to plan ahead. All in all, I think saris are the best investment, they never go out of style and if you gain weight all you have to do is make a new blouse!
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
Even if I had the money, I would only buy 30 or so. The thing is, styles change every season and if you're not the type of person who goes to davats every weekend then all those clothes - even 30 - will not get worn.
Then, if a special occasion comes about, you want new clothes and feel guilty about not wearing the brand new stuff you already have.
Forget the money aspect of it, practically speaking your lifestyle doesnt demand so many new clothes all at once.
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
honestly i think the majority of those 100+ clothes also include outfits that can be worn everyday, as well as lawn and summery stuff. It's more practical for someone living in a traditional home where everyone wears shalwar kameez...so im sure it's not just 100 kaam walay outfits, now that would jus be plain silly :p
now the really weird thing... is that in most of the families in pakistan, go for having dozens/hundreds of dresses. not only that they insist on stitching it all and showing it off..... and then the second they get married the bride is supposed t be gaining weight (if u catch my drift). I wonder if these ppl ever think..alot. =/
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
lol @ weight gain^
seriously! i love how all the aunties talk about the new bride seeing her a month or two after the shaadi going.."moti moti huiwi ho ;)"
I made 60 clothes but they were all utilized from my side. They included cotton as well as kaam walay dresses .I wear mostly shalwar Kameez at home and go to desi parties at least 3 times a month sometimes more upto 9 a month too. So I am always in need of clothes. You can make a few expensive clotehs as you can afford toi be selective and include lots of western clothes if that’syour lifestyle. Good Luck!!
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
im getting married soon and we were thinking about 40 from my parents and lyk 20 from my inlaws both sides will also give me some cash for other clothes i may need later on. Where i live there are davats FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS and SUNDAYs and sometimes even in the middle of the week. its like a fashion show at every davat so im sure ill need all the clothes possible
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
I made soooo many clothes at Nikkah time and I haven't even worn half of them. I wrapped them up in individual plastic bags and have put them away for rukhsati time. This way my mom doesn't have to make alot of them for me. I am gonna be taking alot with me because my inlaws know alot of people and after our Nikkah, we had to go to a dawat almost every day and I had to ask my sister to mail me extra clothes from home. So this time I am gonna make sure to take alot with me. Also, every other weekend is a get together with family friends but for that cotton suits are good enough. I want to have a few formals, some fancy wear, nice cotton embroidery suits and lawn ones.
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
I got 31 from my mum and about 15 from my in laws.. i have used almost all of them in about 2 years.. all of them were not kaam walay..6 or 7 kamwalay, rest were fancy and a few lawn and cotton..
its better to see ur social requirement and your lifestyle while deciding for ur dresz.. just buying every thing u set ur eyes upon is insanity and total wastage of money..better save money or spend that on smthng else, more valuable like jewellery etc

Just like here!! I need clothes all the time with the same faces being in every dawat you can't even repeat clothes much !!

Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
i prefer the idea of an "ongoing jaheyz"... i got two saris and two sk's from my parents, and they gave the rest of the money to us to spend on what we wanted along with some lovely luggage for our honeymoon. so this way whenever i need something new, i usually just ask mum to have it made and send it to me! i get stuff in the newest fashions and it wasn't a huge amount of money to spend at once. i guess its also like someone here said- gauge your social scene and get made what you think you'll need- my only formal dawat's are at Eid- the rest of the time any gatherings with desi friends are in western wear.
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
I would: (if I had to do it all over again)
More Quality Clothes instead of Quantity (timeless pieces that I would wear again and Again)
Variety - different fabrics, materials - (banarsi. chifon, jamawar, even lawn, swiss lawn)
Limit the REALLY heavy outfits to 2-3 espically langas
Leave some clothes unstiched for later
If you don't weat shalwar kameez everyday - get really nice kurtis switched
Invest in one REALLY nice desginer sari (I got 4-5 ordinarry ones)
What?
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
4-5 sarees. Some heavy, some light.
8-10 formalwears.
12-16 everyday/casual wears.
plus all matching shoes and accessories.
Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be

Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be

Re: How many number of clohing pieces should be
