How many days should a woman

skip fasting while having menstruation when the menstruation lasts for 5 days and sometimes 6 days which is rare. So, she shouldn’t be fasting for 6 days?

Re: How many days should a woman

yes , women shouldnt be fasting for as many days as they are on their period. I have heard though that when you suspect it would be the last day but havnt taken your Purifying bath yet, you can fast as long as you take the bath before Zuhr prayer ..

I am not sure how true that is .. I hope someone will be able to clarify that for us.

Re: How many days should a woman

Nani tells me(although I have not come across any text about this) that for an unmarried girl it is 7 days a minimum and 9 days and over as per....

But for married ladies it is 5 days a min.

Re: How many days should a woman

ive heard the exact same thing from ammi.

Re: How many days should a woman

I doubt that this is true. You have to be quite certain that you are completely out of periods before you start fasting. As you have to (and can) always make up the missed fasts, its better to be sure and completely miss the first/last questionable fast than to take risk and end up fasting on the day when you were not suppose to fast. In that case, you are not going to make up and you are left with on due fast in your account without you knowing.

Re: How many days should a woman

But sometimes its very confusing about our last days. ummm how do i explain…:sid:
like if a regular cycle varies from 6-7…and if she usually takes THE bath on the 7th day and now in ramadan she feels she is clean after the 5th day. She shouldnt wait for the 7th day just because that’s the usual day always. She should keep the fast on the 6th day and wait till the morning to confirm whether she’s still clean or not. If she is, she should take the purifying bath before Zuhur prayer and her fast is valid. I need to check the refernces from ammi and will post them here.

err i hope i got my point across .

Re: How many days should a woman

OK that makes sense. But why cant she omit 6th day just to be sure?

Re: How many days should a woman

Peace,

various hadiths narrated by Hazrat Aisha R.A. and from other Mominaat, clearly states that women are exempted (not allowed) to fast and offer their prayers during their periods till they completely get clean or perform ablution everytime when they are going to offer their prayers (in some circumstances). It is also narrated that a woman must make-up her missed fast later on not her prayers.

**In ‘the Book of Menstruation (Kitab Al-Haid)’ of Sahih Muslim hadith No. 0662.
**
Mu’adha said: I asked 'A’isha R.A.: What is the reason that a menstruating woman completes the fasts (that she abandons during her monthly course). but she does not complete the prayers? She (Hadrat 'A’isha) said: Are you a Haruriya? I said: I am not a Haruriya, but I simply want to inquire. She said: We passed through this (period of menstruation), and we were ordered to complete the fasts, but were not ordered to complete the prayers.
**
Book ‘Purification (Kitab Al-Taharah)’ of Sunan Abu-Dawud Hadith No. 0287,
**
Narrated Hamnah daughter of Jahsh: Hamnah said my menstruation was great in quantity and severe. So I came to the Apostle of Allah :saw2: for a decision and told him. I found him in the house of my sister, Zaynab, daughter of Jahsh. I said: Apostle of Allah, I am a woman who menstruates in great quantity and it is severe, so what do you think about it? It has prevented me from praying and fasting. He :saw2: said: I suggest that you should use cotton, for it absorbs the blood. She replied: It is too copious for that. He said: Then take a cloth. She replied: It is too copious for that, for my blood keeps flowing. The Apostle of Allah :saw2: I shall give you two commands; whichever of them you follow, that will be sufficient for you without the other, but you know best whether you are strong enough to follow both of them. He :saw2: added: This is a stroke of the Devil, so observe your menses for six or seven days, Allah alone knows which it should be; then wash. And when you see that you are purified and quite clean, pray during twenty-three or twenty-four days and nights and fast, for that will be enough for you, and do so every month, just as women menstruate and are purified at the time of their menstruation and their purification. But if you are strong enough to delay the noon (Zuhr) prayer and advance the afternoon ('Asr) prayer, to wash, and then combine the noon and the afternoon prayer; to delay the sunset prayer and advance the night prayer, to wash, and then combine the two prayers, do so: and to wash at dawn, do so: and fast if you are able to do so if possible; The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) said: Of the two commands this is more to my liking.
