^ While there is some validity in this comment, the real answer is it depends on the person and the nature of the relationship, rather than the gender of the person.
How vested was the person in the relationship and how did the relationship end (who ended it, why did it end) impacts how long it takes to get over the relationship.

You are still the guy she once loved, right? If she wants to get back with you, she knows how to find you. But you must never, I repeat, you must never try to contact her. Sometimes you have to let go of the ones you love. And like I said earlier they always come back begging

depends on how hard you fell in love initially and who put more effort into making it work. the one that wanted it to work so badly obviously will take longer to recover and see that it wasn't meant to be

I know - trying to contact and being stalkerish is never a good idea. Desperation can be a stinky cologne.
If it was meant to be, then things would sort themselve out. Though it does hurt right now but it will get better (hopefully).

A day or maybe a year. Depends on how involved the two were really.
If you've done something terrible to a girl who loved you, she is not ever coming back, let alone beg to be accepted. :)

Yes it is possible to COMPLETELY get over someone....though it may not seem like it.
How long does it take? I don't think there's a standard time, it varies for each person. It can also depend on how emotionally invested you were in the individual/relationship.
***How fast you move on from a person depends upon your willpower.....and that's totally up to you. People can advise you till you and they are and blue in the face....but if you don't have the sincere desire to move on....you won't. Venting provides some relief...but if you do it all the time....it's like reopening a wound and reliving everything in your mind...which is counterproductive. At some point...you should stop talking about the person. Don't contact them....don't respond to them....don't even wait for them to contact you. If you can't let go....then you're just delaying the process. Go about the routines in your life that you have put on hold because of this person...puruse that interests that you had BEFORE you even got involved with them. With time the intensity of the feelings you had toward them will decrease.

I tend to fall REALLY hard and I can't get over it and feel miserable until I remove every part of their existence from my life. It's a bit extreme but it works for me. Deleting them from fb (SO hard to do because I want to know what's going on in their life / want them to know I'm still find w/o them), blocking on gchat, whatever. It might seem crazy but it helps. Usually if they're around me, I can't get over it. Ever. But like the people above said, with willpower, you will...
