How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Is it really abnormal that I take close to 45 minutes to get dressed because I need to make sure my lengha is on just right and the dupatta is placed correctly so it doesn’t slip and then makeup could take 15 minutes but that’s if I want unevenness and loads of mistakes showing. It actually takes me close to an hour to get the makeup and hair just right because it does make a difference on me. After loads of trial and errors, It has to be symmetrical…eyebrows, eye makeup, lips, foundation, concealer take a while to look right and correct because I am still learning.

What about you all?

It takes me about an hour to look all put together.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

both clothes and makeup…1 hour? Just the makeup is 1 hour, I don’t even wear eye shadow or blush. Plus, I don’t even try the contouring and highlighting because I still haven’t gotten it right. 1 hour in just the light foundation, concealer(so no sign of dark circles show), lipstick(lips have to be evenly coated), mascara can’t be clumpy, eyeliner can’t be uneven on both eyes with the smudging effect.

1 hr 45 mins for clothes and makup. :whistling: yes that’s too much, the better i get at the makeup the shorter the time it will take. I am hopeful. Thank god i’m single or else anybody waiting for me will get frustrated.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Between 10 minutes and 2 hours :bummer:

Depends on how fancy a hairdo and how much I focus on my eyes and face (tri-colour eyeshadow + multi-product face routine takes much longer).

Sadly, sometimes the 10 minute face looks better than the 2 hour routine :hinna:

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

If I take out doing my hair, then for a proper formal occasion, it will take me an hour. If doing my hair, then 2 hours. For a normal dinner, like half an hour to 45 mins.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

somewhere between 15-45 minutes depending upon make-up and occasion.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

20 mins I think.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

.

Do you have long hair like me? I think a person can do more with short hair. With me, I just either pin my hair on both sides so it’s symmetrical. If you have long hair what kind of styles do you do on it?

I know you’re just kidding but 10 minutes on makeup. for me the hour isn’t used to pile on the makeup, it’s more to perfect it to make sure no imperfections are apparent because precision and technique do matter. That’s why celebrities use makeup artists rather than doing the makeup themselves. If I take a pic of my face after 10 minutes of makeuping, I can see what I need to improve on, like add more concealer under the left eye because it doesn’t match the right or coverup the dark spot under hear my left lip.

Stuff like that. I don’t think i’ve come across a cream that’s actually works on uneven skin tone.

20 minutes for a very formal event?

I guess the lesser the imperfections the lesser one needs to spend on makeup like no uneven skintone and nonexistent dark circles. my dark circles are hereditary so even if I take multivitamins or apply dark circle repair creams under my eyes, even if they aren’t sooo crazy bad, they do show. I wish I could take only 20 minutes. my diet is mostly healthy vegetables and fruits and no junk food except low fat popcorn or low calorie snacks. Still the uneven skintone exists.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

I'm not big on makeup thts why it only takes 20 mins. My main prob is the hair. For makeup I only do foundation, mascara, eyeliner and blush/bronzer, no eyeshadow and no contouring either.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

These days I'm wearing it long, but even when I have short hair I opt for straightening it, since curls don't tend to stay in my hair. It's not the straightening that takes that much time, it's the washing and drying it that can take half of the time. It amazes me how others can run a dryer through their hair for like 10-25 minutes and it's bone dry. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Once it's straightened I can figure out something to do with my hair, like using hair pins or hair bands or even a neat braid, or just leaving it as it is. With shorter hair there is the option of having fun haircuts that can be shown off. Long hair is just...well long.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Again depends on the event.

I have gone to mehndis/formal evening parties with the "10 minute" face - is it perfect, maybe not. But then I find perfecting the face is just me being critical. I don't think anyone else is as critical of our skills/face as we are. I'm more concerned with appearing "put together" and polished than perfect.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

takes me about 30-45 min for formal occasion just for the makeup, and if i have to do my hair than another 30 min atleast. for formal occasion, eye make up is very important and it takes forever to to blend properly, eyelining, mascara, brow shaping so it takes a while and then eyelashes take forever too.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Up to 2 hours for everything but I can do it in half an hour if it's not a desi gathering (less makeup and so on.. I'm also less nervous/paranoid when aunties aren't around)

Amen :frowning:

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

45 mins isn't bad it takes me 30-35 mins to shower, put on clothes, hair makeup everything for a formal occasion.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

It takes me about 2 hours get ready for a formal occasion, including hair and makeup. It takes longer if I straighten my hair as it is a bit long (reaches mid-back or so).

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Well I’m glad i’m not the only one that takes close to 2 hours(possibly more:sunnyboy:) to get ready for a special event. Those that have SO/husbands/fiances, hopefully they are understanding and don’t get annoyed. I would think anybody waiting would get majorly impatient.
I know my dad could get ready in at most 25 to 30 mins and then he would just wait. I know dad has gotten more patient now that he’s older than before.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

Depending on how important the event, I could take up to 2 hours to get ready. That would include shower/hair/outfit/make-up/accessories.
Keeping in mind there would be interruptions of the "Mama where's my chooriyan" and "I thought I had a plain lime green tie....I swear I bought one.....do you know where it is??!!" variety.

Re: How long do you take to get ready for a formal occasion?

i usually wash my hair the night before and let them air dry.
so my getting ready time is 20-45 mins :D
