I want do a elegant updo with a tikka. No dupatta on my head. Desi bridal make-up that will include airbrushing. Dupatta draped over shoulders and then pinned on my arms.
If I have 1 person doing hair and a 2nd person doing MU…working at the same time…am I crazy in thinking this can be doine an hour or hour and 30 minutes?
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
O.M.G…then I screwed up BIG! I have like 1.5 hours max. I can get my hair done before the ceremony but to get ready for the reception…for make-up I have max 1.5 hours. My invitations have already been sent with the timing and all the times are in the contract for catererer, photographer etc.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Hey, I just read it again. If the hair is already done beforehand, 1.5 hours should be enough for makeup and setting. It's cutting it a bit fine but it should be okay if the MUA is experienced.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
i agree w stoppit- if the MUA is experienced you should be fine! check out SadafHairandBeauty on youtube and see how fast she does it- it’s amazing! wish she would have been around for my wedding (smack cuz i looked uuuugly)
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Oh gawd…I’m just really freaked out right now. I didn’t even think about this!!! I had no idea it took that long… Yes the people are professionals and I’m doing a hair and make-up trial beforehand so they’ll know exactly what “look” they’re doing.
Having my hair done before the ceremony is not a big deal. I can have her put the tikka on later. But the MU part is really freaking me out. We were also planning on having some pictures of us taken before the reception…but if MU takes entire 1.5 hours…that means we’ll have to take those pics while everyone is eating (again not a big deal but still)…
I feel like a total dork for not even asking about this way before we finalized the timeline.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Well you know now so you can make arrangements accordingly like get your hair done before. If you make sure everything is super organised, and the MUA knows the time is limited and prepares properly, it should be fine.
TBH if the bride is a bit late it's nearly always because getting ready took longer than anticipated.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Can you not get your MUA to come earlier then? She should know how timings are for her work? Tell her the times you need to be ready and I'm sure she can tell you a time she should come and get you ready?
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Stoppit: you're right. I have some options i have thought of. Once I do the trial, I can time her and somehow adjust something.
Cupcake: its not the mua. Its my stupid timeline. I have the civil ceremony, and 1.5 hours later the reception. I need mua done for reception. 2 outfit colors are totally different. And the invites have been sent out so I cant alter then times now.
I feel stupid. Just when I think everything is coming together, another surprise comes along and my anxiety level shoots up even further!
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
^Oh, nooo! Don't worry, I'm sure it wont take that long in your case since you're not getting the dupatta set on the head. Makeup shouldn't take more than 45 minutes. Just get their as early as possible and it should be fine.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
have you built any padding into your timeline at all? if its not too late to tweak, have at least some leeway in case there's heavy traffic/inclement weather/you forgot something and need to run home to get it etc. things almost never run like clockwork and to the minute so make sure you are not cutting it too close with your itinerary.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
I'm sure it won't matter if you're a bit late like 20 minutes? don't worry about the time..dont rush or you'll panic! just take things calmly. make sure everything is in order so you don't forget things at home..try and get your MUA to come to where you're having the reception so you don't have to travel to her! I'm sure you should be fine since your hair will be done!
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
Thanks for the tips everyone! I really feel like an idiot for not thinking more about this before!
So my civil ceremony is at 5:15 p.m. (that’s what the cards say but we were originally planning on starting at 5:30).
Cocktail hour 6
Reception according to the invites begins at 7:30.
Like an idiot…I honestly thought between 6-7:30…I’d be able to get my hair/MU done AND take pics with him.
But now with the info. I’ve learned…my new “plan” is that civil ceremony will begin at 5:15…and should be done by 5:30. ASAP I will go upto the room and start getting ready. I will have her do my hair BEFORE the ceremony. So all she has to do is put the tikka on. And of course…the makeup. I’m hoping they can do the make-up and help me put on the outfit in 1.5 hours.
I’ve already spoken with fiance and now we plan on starting the reception at 7:45. 15 minutes isn’t long enough for guests to wonder WTH is going on…lol. And we will take pics during dinner. So yea…as of right now…I have exactly 1.5 hours for my face. I have my hair/MU trial booked in 2 weeks so I’ll discuss all this in detail with them. They will be coming to the wedding location for sure.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
^ lady, why don't you get your makeup done prior to the ceremony? your schedule is very much like mine and i was all dressed and at the venue with hubs, immediate family and bridal party at 3 so we were able to take our time- 2.5 hours- for couple photos and with near and dear ones, before our ceremony at 5:30. it was very relaxed and unhurried. if you are wearing two different outfits, why don't you opt for more neutral makeup and then possibly you can swap out the colour of your lippy at most if the outfit colours are vastly different and you want some more oomph for the reception.
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
SCG:
I think I'm just losing my mind with paranoia with this issue...lol. So my civil ceremony outfit is a simple red/gold sari. Reception outfit is silver/orange (I think you saw part of the dupatta on the other thread).
I guess I was thinking about saving the big "wow" for the reception. But the more I think....the ceremony will be short and no one will see me up-close. Plus due to the timing... alot of people may not even come until the cocktail hour or reception.
During my trial in 2 weeks...I need to discuss with the MUA if they'd be willing to "wait" for me so they can help me change and add a bit of "oomph" to my MU for the reception (although this might cost me extra). :( My fear is that if I let them go....when I need to change my outfit and have the jewelry put on (especially the tikka).....somehow either the hair or MU will get messed up.
I think I'm just freaking out. I also have a lot of anxiety about the 1st dance and other random stuff.....I'm just in a constant state of anxiety these days... :(
Re: How long did your bridal hair/make-up take to complete?
^ take a deep breath on three... 1... 2... 3... innn and outtt. you will be fine. you are doing fine. everything is planned perfectly and everything will go very well insha'Allah.
i would definitely get my makeup done ahead of time. you don't want to cut it too close and risk having to rush everything.
the ceremony will be very short, agreed, and you in your outfit will be wow regardless, so i would say save yourself some anxiety and settle it earlier. and yes, you might have to pay them extra for half an hour more while the ceremony is taking place, but thats money well spent if it means they'll be on location and will be there to help you get settled into your next oufit.
red and orange seem to be the common factors, so possibly opt for something in bronze or copper for your eyes if you do end up doing your makeup earlier.
