How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Like in certain Middle Eastern countries it is ok to wear knee length skirts, slightly revealing clothes and that is considered “Business Attire”. When will it become OK in Pakistan to do that?

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Girls in Karachi and in Lahore (although less than Karachi) already dress rather indecently..

It's so cheap though I mean fair enough if you want to rebel against your traditions you do it in a classy way so that it doesn't shout out "wannabe" and you're still being original, go ahead and wear a laacha which only comes upto your knees or something or a Saari made out of clinfiln but skirts are meant for the West, ohh sum people are so wannabeish it'll make the world a boringer place...

As for Arabs they are just kuttay anyway, the guys think they're white when they're brown as brown can be, except a few who use too much fair and lovely or who's fathers picked up a cheap trashy blonde somewhere...

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

My recent trip had my jaw dropping several times. Some of the shalwar kameez and pant suits that I saw up and down Tariq Rd. and in Clifton areas were more revealing than any long skirt could ever be.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

^ could you give us a description? I've seen that sk's these days are getting sleeveless and shalwars are now capris. But I don't see how that's so horridly revealing. Lots of Pakistanis wear those kinds of clothes to work.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Hain, really?? Jeez... when i goto pak, I never see any1 w/o a duputta fully draped across their chest... my mom wears burka, all the women in my family wear proper chadors... i have yet to c anyone wearing jeans or revealing SK

Re: How long before wearing skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Being an mcp society, they’ll probably allow this for men first long before women can…:bukbuk:

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

right muzna, on tariq road and clifton i too saw many girls wearing jeans and also skirts....
some were even wearing those 3/4 jeans....
but not seen anyone wearing skirts above the knee....
in middle east, knee-high skirts r not rare at all....
as teendabbawala has mentioned, the working women do wear such revealing dresses....

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Arabs are no where near as conservative as us... South Asians are probably one of the most conservative Muslims in the world with us Pakis being the most conservative...

..This is off topic but in the absense of other Arabs or West Asians quite a lot of them prefer Kaafir (White) friends over Muslim (Paki/Indian/Bengali) friends... A lot of them drink too, even their older FOB ladies go down to the local pub but they never forget Allah (very pious people), haath mein sharaab ka gilaas aur zubaan pe Dhikr-e-Ilahi, I use to see Sheikhs on TV with Tasbeeh/Subha' in one hand and wine glass in the other and now I've met one like that in real life, I go to the local pub to play pool (not to drink) and we use to have this old Arab lady come in, and anyway she had an habit of saying "I swear to my God!" every so often...

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

in some circles its already ok to wear em , in some itll never be ok .

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

a tasbeeh is not a symbol of being religious in arabia....
its just a fashion, like wearing a ring, or glasses etc....
so it wud be wrong to think that they wish to portray themselves as religious by holding the tasbih....
a tasbeeh is made of expensive stones, and some r even perfumed, and ppl hold these in their hands or let them hang out from their side-pockets to show the expensive tasbeeh that he has....
just a show of class and richness and not of being religious....

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

you can’t stop the skirt line from receding.

first they’ll allow them to wear full-length skirts that fall down to their ankles. they’ll say: “it’s as revealing as shalwar kameez”.

then, slowly the skirtline will go up, 1/2 inch at a time and you won’t even notice it. it’s psychological. once you accept a 1/2 inch reduction, there’s no stopping it. you won’t even notice it until you find that Qazi Hussain’s granddaughters in bikinis.

the question is: should men have the right to set the length to which the skirt must fall? if you left the question to women alone they’d choose as high up as they fancied. but in pakistan men call the shots.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

I saw SK's that were halter style, spaghetti strap style and even strapless....held at the bust with elastic. I consider that to be revealing. Especially if the dupatta is all curled up into a string that falls backward from the neck.

As mentioned the shalwars are turning into capris, if they aren't actual capris that they are wearing.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Which country? I’ve met Syrians and Egyptians who are exactly the opposite. Gulf arabs are a different animal…and there is where I see this kind of strange behavior.

Algerians and Syrians, it must be said, are perhaps the most down to earth people I’ve met, although a minority of Algerians tend to be totally westernized. Luckily, I’ve only met the down-to-earth types so far…

The Arab world is a large place!

I think the way it works is that there are certain areas where you see the westernized types out and about. In Egypt, Pakistan, etc. there are probably these upper class areas where people go clubbing, and what not. These guys are the scum of society, though…who cares what they do?

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

Why just men? Many women object too. Society = Men + Women. Society has a right to dictate what is acceptable in the PUBLIC space. If a person wants to walk around naked in their own private property, or do whatever, it’s their call.

In public, and in a Muslim society, you gotta conform…or find another country to live in.

This isn’t about freedom…it’s about who owns the public space. In the West, it’s the liberals. Here they say if you don’t like what you see, leave. We need to start taking on the same attitude.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

i saw them too when i visited pak two yrs ago…the strapless SK…
also there are those full-sleeved SKs that come with see-thru shalwars and kamizes that show the colors of your bra…that is so not sexy…just trashy and tacky…

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

four years ago I went to Pakistan for my nikah and was shocked when i saw a girl wearing a see thru shalwar kameez... you could see her bra and it was so disgusting.

The sad part is she was soo confident..ppl were starring at her, and she didnt' even care!

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

I went pak a couple of months back ... mums family from kchi and dads from lahore .

karachi:- Yes lovely trouser suit ..but there was one small problem...I can't see the trouser/shalwar ! Maybe they should just wear the kameez and discard the bottom ...the bottom half is not a 3 quarter length its just not visible?!
lahore:- are the girls wearing clothes that are nicely fitted or clothes that they are fitting themselves into:- in my opinion they might as well walk around in a cat suit; same effect. look at my figure display.
Islamabad:- umm wannabe brits/american

My apologies if anyone is offended. This is just what I saw.

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?

what is happening to Pakistan? I think MMA and the stick that it wields are the only solution. or perhaps we should bring back Zia ul Haq's lash? this time with a vengeance?

Re: How long before wearking skirts in Pakistan is considered OK?
