it’s a good thing that you haven’t seen such “extreme cases”…unfortunately that doesn’t mean they don’t exist or aren’t common.
I can’t speak for what you thought or not…all I mean to suggest is that many of these situations can be corrected with little effort saving the child from having to live with such features.
I’m not an authority on the matter…just sharing what I was taught and what I have seen and practised myself. All this may not be valuable to all but for some I’m sure it will be interesting, at least.
As far as the source of my knowledge…she was the head nurse in APWA Maternity Hospital in Karachi…working for several years under the skilled and trusted hands of Dr. Shamim Akhtar. Ammi had enough experience under her belt for me to follow her advice blindly.
According to my knowledge, some docs in Pakistan haven’t clearly gotten over the cultural expectations so I am not surprised if docs recommend that. To each their own!
I do have a problem with people calling someone child looking ugly to justify the shaping of head or nose for that matter but I have no intention to argue about physical appearance of the baby so I m out of this thread. Enjoy the discussion
I know ugly is not a nice word to use, but yes it do look odd or wht muzna said unattractive n you can notice it clearly n honestly when I was prego I saw a baby with very pointed head n a a little girl almost 4 years n yes when I saw them the first thing I wish was, kash parents ne thori attention de hoti , mymil stressed so much on for head thing tht she literally explain me tht when she will grow up n she will tie her hair then you will see how bad it looks, allhumdullah I didn’t need to do much wth her head or forehead but I wish I would have done for her nsoe
Agreed. It is highly likely that docs have not “overcome” the cultural standards that prevail…and perhaps they never will. But my reference to my mother was not to justify those norms…or to say that the doctors recommend these methods…it was to suggest that there is nothing medically wrong or harmful with any of these practices.
My mum does it with my brothers son hihihi… She does the nose in the mornin… Puttin surma in the eyes to get them larger… Gonn tell her about the ata thing… How should it b applied? As in just like compressing it gently?
