Its been almost 4 weeks since i had my delivery (vaginal) and it still hurts. by hurt i don’t mean crazy pain , but this heavy sort of pressure down there and occasional stinging and oddly enough numbness as well. i did push for 3 and a half hours and did get stitched by the doc for over an hour and she said i tore more than the “average” woman but didn’t tell me to do anything special for the pain. my specialist also met with me post delivery and told me to take advil for the pain and do kegels (which i did) because its been hard regaining control over the muscles. but the recovery process is still very very slow. I’m still bleeding (lightly though) , but there are times when i just can’t stand because of this weird pain in the perineal area
and honestly, going for a “dump” is harder than pushing out a baby (sorry for the TMI) . I’ve never been this constipated before. (i am on stool softeners which don’t help one bit).
everybody tells me they healed much faster than i did. but also keep telling me not to worry because every one is different. my specialist also thinks its normal but I’m really getting frustrated. (i have an appt with him in 2 weeks) . it takes me 30 seconds to get off my bum because i don’t want it to hurt or make myself bleed, and walking really doesn’t help. I’m eating ok, fibre, milk , fruits, veggies. and i do walk everyday . my mom is with me so i don’t have house work to do, just have to look after baby, but i am unable to enjoy anything because of how I’m feeling. i just don’t feel the same anymore physically and i had really hoped i would feel better by now. can anyone relate ?
Ok... that's very very normal. I felt the same. Lots of pressure and lots of pain. Your stitched must've healed by now but the pressure stays there for some time. The only thing I don't think is normal is stool softener not working. I don't know why it's not helping you. talk to your doc about that.everything else seems just what everyone else goes thru. Some get more stitches and more tear then others. Your healing time is most likely to depend on that.
Re: How long after Delivery did it hurt?
I had 3rd degree tears in my second delivery (vbac) and it took them over an hour to stitch me up as well. The doctor told me the rectum muscle had a tear as well and that the whole tear was kind of bad. I was so swollen down there that the 3 days I was in hospital, I could not sit up at all. When I left for home, I got a doughnut pillow as I could not sit and take the pressure. It started getting slightly better in about 2 weeks time but it was not completely gone. If I stood for long time or by the end of the day I would feel so much pressure in my bottom that I could hardly stand at all.
I have a good pain threshold and I usually keep on bearing pain as long as I can. So I just thought it will get better but it did not.
I had actually developed a cyst down there and that was causing the pressure and pain. On a weekend I decided to get an appointment but the pain got so unbearable I had to go to emergency where they removed the cyst/pus.
Everyone I talked to thought it was not normal for me to still feel the pain after a month so I would say get checked as soon as you can.
Re: How long after Delivery did it hurt?
Stool softeners!!!! They really help with the going to the bathroom part .. makes it so much easier!
It's normal .. I was pain for quite some time after giving birth.

Ouch! Would you still recommend a vbac or a repeat c-section with such bad tears?

It is everyone's choice but if I had another baby I will still go for vaginal delivery than a c-section (a major surgery)
I do not want to scare anyone from trying for vbac.
My tears were my fault. I pushed too fast, as soon as the head came out I pushed again too fast and the doctor could not guide the shoulders out, so the tear was caused by kind of the entire shoulder coming out (if I am making any sense).
Just remember how to push, stay focused.
Also for the cyst, as I said above I kept on waiting for the pain to go away when I should have gone to the doctor and got myself checked instead of assuming I am getting it because of vbac.
Everyone kept telling me they have given birth and its normal to feel the pain when my pain was actually not the same.
as soon as I would tell any woman I had 3rd degree tears and it hurts to stand too long, they would start telling me 'oh i had the same and this and that'.
That is why I suggest OP should get herself checked asap instead of assuming everyone goes though this pain and its normal. InshaAllah everything is ok with her but if anything seems out of ordinary, do not assume.
Re: How long after Delivery did it hurt?
Thank you for the repy saran. Im sorry your experience post delivery was painful. I am doing better now, and will meet with my specialist soon. the bleeding has almost tapered off, and this week has been good in terms of pressure and pain. i do however need something for the hemmorroids (?) that i think i might have. so I'm hoping my doc can help me with that.
Re: How long after Delivery did it hurt?
^ that is completely normal. try TUCKS pads or spray for hemorroids...they are very soothing.
