lol...saying sorry and thank you represents care, respect and sophistication...any society that doesn't follow these desired way of interaction, that society is closer to being jangli than being cultured.

In cultured Lucknow of 18th / 19th centuries, how did they use these terms?

Do you think use of these terms is as common in our societies (India / Pakistan) as in west?

"Sorry and Thanks" reflect some truths about society. Those societies are dead where sorry and thanks are nt common. I think in every society, these words are used cz People have a huge pile of things to be sorry for cz Human nature is dominating. At the same time, human can nt do anythng without the help of others in every society. So u have to be grateful. But my Personal opinion is , words do nt make difference, Words have to b backed up with actions.

Baki jaga ka tu nahi pata very common in pakistan,,,,infact agar app kisi se bat karahy hun aur unko samjh na aya ho tu kaha jata hy 'sorry' ...and thanks is also very common...text per app kisi ko kuch bhi khedein tu appko yeh thanks milta rahega...!

Unfortunately sorry is considered a sign of weakness.
Thanks in and of itself is superficial. Rarely do people show through actions how thankful they are.

west meN sorry aur thank you kahnaa is a 'way of life'.

ek misaal pesh kartaa huN:

"bus meN Ghalatii se agar aapkaa paauuN zameen par rakkhe kisii ke backpack se Takraa jaaye to aapke muNh se be_iKhtiyaar "sorry!" nikal jaataa hai aur kam o besh usii waqt backpack ke maalik bhii "sorry!" kahtaa huaa bag apne paauuN ke qareeb kar letaa hai".

aap sorry is liye kahte haiN k aapkaa ne Dhang se nahiiN dekhaa aur bag par paauuN rakh diyaa jab k bag kaa maalik sorry is liye kahtaa hai k uskaa bag aapke raaste meN thaa aur isii liye aapkaa paauuN usse Takraayaa...

...donoN ko apnii Ghalatii kaa aHsaas hotaa hai.

I also observed that. People don't say sorry because of their false ego as well.

There is also a resistence to utter sorry word in your own language. like we can easily say 'sorry', but 'Maaf kejiye ga' or 'mujhe afsos hai' is difficult to utter somehow. Not because we don't know the language, but 'sorry' is uttered without feeling, which you called being thankful without conveying through the action. people have attitude like 'sorry keh to dia hai, ab aur kiya karoon?'

I agree with you. Both sorry and thank u need to be sincere. We all make mistakes. But to own up to it sincerely is what makes us better human beings.

what about when people say that sorry is used to cover up mistake. Like sorry kehne se sab kuch theek ho jata hai. Mistake karo aur sorry bolo. I think sorry and thank you should be used but should be genuine and from heart.

how common do people say "hamari yeh gustaakhi maaf kariye"
