Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

All languages in Pakistan including Punjabi are wrote using local variations of the Arabic script, as are languages across most of the Muslim world.

I quite like the North Indian scrpits, they look beautiful. I wish we'd kept them but from day one Pakistani Muslims have got culture and religion mixed up, fair enough we should know Arabic as a seperate language because it's kind of inseperable from our religion but we should have maintained our own culture and kept it free from Arab cultural influences.

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

How different is the Gurmukhi script from the Devanagari script? Can Punjabi be wrote properly using the Devanagari script or not? And can Gurmukhi script be reffered to as Lahnda or Punjabi instead of Gurmukhi even though it has been modified by Guru Angad Dev Ji? Is it still called Lahnda by anyone? What do Indian Punjabi Hindus and Indian Punjabi Muslims (do they exist?) write Punjabi in?

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

In Pakistan the Punjabi is written as Shahmukhi.

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

True

Here’s a link to a Shahmukhi website if anyone is interested.

I’m trying to learn Gurmukhi by watching the lessons on Vectone-Punjabi.

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

And for Pakistani Punjabis who want to learn Gurmukhi.

http://www.apnaorg.com/gurmukhi/

It’s really good it has Arabic equivalents, the name of the letter is not important you can call them same as Arabic, it’s the sound they represent.

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

Punjabi is written in Gurmukhi, which is fairly similiar to Devnagri script.

Not too many Punjabi Muslims in Punjab(say 5%), they write Punjabi in the Arabic script. Most Hindus in Punjab write Punjabi in the Gurmukhi script and Hindi in the Devnagri script.

No one calls it Lahnda ONLY Punjabi.

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

Muslims are totally integrated in South India & they peacefully co exist with Hindus & christians. Bangalore, Madras, Cochin etc-never any problems Churches, Mosques and Temples exist peacefully next to each other.

The other parts of the country need to integrate better, especially the northern states.

:)

Yep, and in the west too we feel a sort of affinity with each other, like there's this Sikh lady here who's so huggable, she reminds me of my late grandma, dresses the same, speaks the same, looks the same and we really get on, I wish things were the sameway backhome in South Asia. We can disagree with each other and still have mutual respect and not feel the need to impose our views on the other but sadly some people just don't get it. :(

Re: How is Punjabi written in Pakistan

Keep dreaming of and keep respecting ‘culture’ more than the brighter religeon which broght so much greatness to the mankind.

Is culture more important to you or religeon? Ideally both are good if not mutually exclusive but what should we do if they are?

Leave the stinking culture…as much as we can!!!
