How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Do you think there is a difference? I have found that Pakistanis tend to make fun of other people, but I can’t really characterize American humour (because I am American and it seems normal to me). British humour is of course much more dry, witty and word-based. I don’t know what else characterizes Pakistani or other desi humour. Any thoughts?

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Recently, Pakistani Humor has become no different than American Humor. I always find American Humor to be more disrespectful and insulting to others. American Comedians always make fun of people in a very disrespectful and disgraceful manner.

If one needs to know what Pakistani Humor really is, then perhaps reading work of Patras, Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Colonel Muhammad Khan, Mushtaq Yousefi, Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi, Shaukat Thanvi, Kamal Ahmed Rizvi, Anwer Maqsood and likes of them would help.

Comedians such as Late Moin Akhtar, team of 80's show 50/50, Late Nannha, Munawar Zareef, Lehri etc. produced some ever green humor that is still enjoyed among masses.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

^look like you havent seen pakistani stage shows

you have to compare apples to apples

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Americans do not have much of comdey stage shows. Comparing stand-up comedians is a possibility. And again as I said, recently things have changed. The original stand-up comedies and even stage shows of 80's were not so disrespectful. However, the culture of Jugat bazi in punjab side of stage shows has always been sort of disrespectful due to the nature of "Jugat Bazi".

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

^yes exactly

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

but that is just on Punjab side. You can't generalize the whole of Pakistan based on Punjab, can you?

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

American humor is mostly concerned with swear words, sex related jokes and body excretions.. these days Pakistani humor is mostly political and dry (physical humpr) well except for punjabi stage shows..

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

I am not sure which comedians you listen to but only Non-Caucasian stand comedians (George Lopez, Margret Cho, Chris Rock, russell peters types) do racial jokes and very insulting. But if you listen to white comedians like Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfiled (I can name many), they are just hilarious and very non-racial.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

You need to listen to some good one. Not every one holding a mic is comedian :D.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Same people start using swear words and abusive content in their comedy when they are out of general TV programs (where such things are censored) and enter into more open networks such as HBO. I was not specific abougt racial jokes anyway.

By the way, so all non-Caucasians are not part of American comdey and are outsider? That's pretty racist opinion :D j/k

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Reginald Hunter is my favourite American comedian.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Actually, I wasn't thinking so much about professional stand-up comedians, but rather about everyday average people. I didn't even notice the way Pakistanis make fun of others (for being bald or short or fat or dark or whatever) while I was there. It was when I came back to the US and someone pointed out that my humour had become that way, that I realized I had picked this up in Pakistan. That was a long time ago, but the lesson stuck with me.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

well I would agree with this. I really respect seinfield and even jeff dunham. But lately the standard is kinda low.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

I was not talking about comedies in sitcoms but on stage, stand up comedy of Seinfeld and DeGeneres is quite clean.

and yes it was a racist opinon but I was not doing comedy, I was serious :D

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Even within Pakistan, you will find a huge difference in humor style of people from Karachi vs Lahore. Lahore style is more like snappy come back that we call Jugat-Bazi. Karachi one is more indirect and very subtle.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

lol.you sure are seriously racist :p

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Speaking of American Comedy, I actually like Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens. Perhaps so because they are more family oriented? I don't know.

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

admit it that you like King of Queens because of hot Leah Remini

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

do you? :D

Re: How is Pakistani humour different from American humour?

Didn't read the OP but I wanted to say Punjabi stage shows are hilarious!
