how hard is to break the habit of

Salam

I havent had the problem of saying No to meat that is not halal. I always eat fish or vegitarian when I am having lunhc at work canteen, out at any restaurent serving haram food etc.

I have always pre ordered fish/vegetarian when I have been away for a work related activity.

Just think how much reward Allah gives you for not following your greed for having meat at a certain place. You can always have meat when you get home so there is no need to stress on not having meat.

its not hard at all. i'm not a meat fan anymore, so if i'm out, i just get seafood. almost as good..

without any guilt I might add

ooh yaar just eat it and then ask allah for forgiveness..he is very merciful

All along I thought halal was halal and haram was haram, meaning any meat which is not halal is not permissible for me to eat.

So when one Auntie said that her son sometimes eats the chicken he gets in the canteen (which was not halal), he would read Bismillah and eat it. And I was like "Ahh!!!  How can he eat that?

And then I came to gupshup :halo: and learnt that it was quite common.

Personally though I can’t imagine me knowingly eating non-halal chicken, beef etc. :-/

^yup i agree with u... i've always eaten halal so theres no question that i could loosen up on that philosophy... where i live theres halal food available widely and its not really that big of a hassle to go out of ur way a little bit to get it.... as for the chicken thing.. its becoming more and more common and also moving towards the beef side too.. what can u do i guess

What a bunch of haramis!

If you can't stick to something this simple then stop it all together.

its times like these when u thank Allah that He let u live in a muslim country....

^^, After spending most part of my life in the mid east and now in US, I wonder if the meat in Muslim countries are also halal and zabiha?

I agree with Rukhsar here: haram is a very strong word and shouldnt be used so freely. From waht i understand, the burger sold in US burger kings i halal since its either chicken or beef. But its not zabiha. I personally dont eat non zabiha meat since I dont feel comfortable. I have spent enormous amount of time away from home where zabiha meat was not avalible at all. I used to order online (technology these days!) or bring back some when i would visit a bigger city. AJ has some good suggestions to wean off non zabiha food. Rest, Allah knows best.

not zabiha = haraam i think....

and what makes u think that meat in muslim countries wud not be halal????

I have been born and bred in a non muslim country and I've never eaten haraam meat, ie meat products from non muslim shops. Even though some people do, my mum have dad have taught us since kids that it's haraam to eat it.

From school dinners we used to eat veggie stuff from outside, and up untill today have avoided this stuff. It's maybe coz Mum is so into checkin the ingredients of stuff when we are out shoppin to check for whey and pork ingredients, I realise that if we can avoid this haraam altogether it's better. Even jelly bears are taboo in my house. When I was younger I used to eat jelly sweets and get told off by family for eatin gelatine. Other than that im a pure carnivore, i love my kebabs and chicken but only if it's halaal. Im very paranoid about this I don't know why.

so supposedly just because i eat a big mac, i shud start sleeping around with random guys, stealing, lying, drinking alcohol and stop reading namaz?

islam is not pick and choose what you want to follow, but just because u do one thing wrong, that doesn't give you license to do every wrong thing

u know what they say "in for a penny, in for a pound".... :p

btw i dont think thats what he meant....

So you think what you're doing is wrong?!

Anyway lay off the big macs you could do with losing a few pounds.

^^Ivan that was rude and unasked for!!!!

armughal: I was talking abt suspicion abt foods at burger king, mcdonalds etc in the mid east. Now i am not so sure if even they use zabiha.

I never said i eat big macs, i just used it as an example. Learn to differentiate between an example and personal fact about oneself, and then make a comment.

Also, if you think I misunderstood what you were saying, you should clarify your point, rather than resorting to a petty, personal attack.

I thought you were dishing out facts when you said the only reason you don't eat haram is because you can't be bothered to walk 3 blocks to buy it, you are an example to us all :)

Yes I did over-step the mark by saying you could lose a few pounds, now it's un-Islamic to tell the truth?! :o

  1. I've said what I've said about eating haram and non-haram food, and that's it. If you don't like my reason for ** not ** eating haram, too bad.

  2. This has nothing to do with being Islamic or not, it's just simple respect. Tell the truth when someone asks you for it. Otherwise, grow up. This discussion is not about my body, my looks, the amount of weight I need to lose or whatnot. If I wanted people to pick apart my looks, I would have posted a full body pic in Img 3. So kindly keep your unsolicited advice out of this, however "truthful" and beneficial it may be to you.

I apolagise for the overwieght remarks, I myself could do with losing a few pounds, mostly from my wallet on a friday night.

So tell me when was the last time soneone died from lack of big macs?

Get off the big macs, it was just an example. Please, get back to the original discussion now.

(Oh If I were a mod… :halo: )

its all BS about not being able to find Zabeha meat outlets. every week I drive down more then 35 miles to get to Newport city to buy Zabeha meat!(as where i live is a small English town) it all depends on if you really WANT to follow or not. Even in my office every one knows I follow Zabeha and they arrange it for me in any parties. Thanks to Allah.
