a year ahead of time in terms of booking your venue.
once thats done, you have the other 12 months to sort out the other things like your clothing, jewellery, makeup, etc.

I am getting married in April next year. I haven't really started planning or anything cos it feels like I have a long time to go. So am wondering, how long in advance do you think I need to start planning and where should I start?

Your thoughts appreciated x

WS GiGGles! Congrats!!! :) I'm getting married in April too and I've been planning since I got engaged last month. You wouldn't believe how quickly time flies! Start planning now. It's better to be done early than have a lot of things to do in March.

Start with getting a venue. That was the hardest part for me because all the nice venues were already booked. I had to change my wedding date because of that!

Where do you live? If in US, you'll need to get a caterer. Decorator. Photographer. Make up artist. Book them early so you get the best person that you want instead of having to settle for someone mediocre because the best ones were already booked.

Also, start looking at invitation cards. It's good to send those out early so your guests have plenty of time.

Are your in-laws getting your wedding clothes? Mine told me to pick my clothes myself and they'll pay for it. If that's the case with you, start looking at dresses! They take a few months to make and if there are size problems later, you should have plenty of time to fix those.

There's so much to plan especially if you're not living in Pakistan. Get started now! And good luck!!! :)

start NOW. (im trying not to make u panic)
im sure everything will come out great but u want it to come into place smoothly

My wedding is in Feb and i have nothing planned yet. :hehe: We just started looking into venues.
I have no time between work and school.
Good luck start taking things 1 at a time and i think venues will be something to start with since thats when your dates can move around.

well it depends on how big your wedding is and how many events you're having. for me its quites simple, we arent having mehndis and dholkis. just a baraat and valima. but if you're having alot of events then you need to find venues first.
heres what you need to do:

1)make a guestlist so that you know how many people are invited
2) book a hall according to how many people you want, and the location you want
3) get started on the dresses. If you want designers they mgiht take a long time.
4)get jewellery made
5) book a salon and photographer
5) last is invitations which dont take that long

Thank you everyone,

I am getting married in Pak, but I am in UK. Venue wise, won't be a problem as we are going to have all the events at home (Pak), Alhamdolillah there is plenty of space, even when my cousins got married they had their events and stuff at our place. I'm going to take evrything from here, dress, etc.

Guests - me and hubby aren't too fussed we are leaving that to the parents. So thats a tick!

I'm only going to be in Pak a few days before the wedding so only thing I have to freak about then is the MUA!

I don't know if I am being too blase about this! Me and hubby keep saying 'Oh, it's okay we have plenty of time!'

So basically you just need to book a salon for your makeup and a photographer. Ask your family in pak to book a salon for you. Which city in pak?

In Mirpur, I don't really have much to freak about do I? I can probably take it nice and easy and just enjoy the ride!

well thats how i am too. hehe. mine is in april too and i havn't gotten much done. im not a picky person at all and i just ordered the dress i saw at some random store.. but most brides i know go crazy so maybe im the weird one.

Yea, my in laws are getting some and I'm gonna choose some myself aswell. Thank you for the tip, I'll get on to that one!

OMG, I have to get jewellery made, totally forgot! Dunno, if I should get it done here or Pak, I'm only going to be there a few days before the wedding

Im not very picky either, but my sis in law thinks I am! Actually I am fussy with shoes.

Only thing I'm freaked about is falling over! I told my hubby I'm not moving an inch until he gets there and has a firm grip so I don't fall!

If you're only gona be in pak for a few days before your wedding, get your jewellery done now. you wont have time in those few days to get a set made. it takes atleast 20 days for jewellers to get it made.
