The "old-camera" argument against Pakistani movies is so banal. Do you think cameras alone do the trick? What about lighting, processing, post-production?
If you're written a screenplay, market it to a producer/financier and gather all the technicians and actors you need to make a film.
Re: How does one become a film director?
Thanks for the help but I've reconsidered it and I'm going to try my luck in Bollywood instead. They've got better equipment and much higher budget, not to mention the growing popularity. I was reading an article and it said that Pakistan doesn't even have a post production studio.

If you’re in this for the budgets and the equipment, I wish you the best :k:
Re: How does one become a film director?
Heard about Slackistan? Really intriguing indie-film. Google it. To become a director you need to do film-making course. I'd suggest going to SAAMPT in Karachi or National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore. They both offer professional film-making course. Me and my friends were making a short-film for Kara film festival. I wrote the screenplay of the short-film myself. :) If you need any help to hook up with film-makers around Khi or Lahore. Just let me know. I know a lot of indie artist in this field. :)

Well your right about the budget and equipment thing but even bollywood and hollywood started with low budgets and people started taking more interest. Trust me you can't become a bollywood director simply cuz your a Pakistani. It will be hard enough for you to get a visa to India. Even if you by chance get a visa, it's not like you'll approach a producer and he'll sign you right away. It takes at least 2 years to years to get in the industry and I doubt your visa can be extended for 2 years.
Re: How does one become a film director?
What qualifications do you have? Do you have a showreel? I suggest you be realistic and start from scratch. No Pakistani director has yet been hired by bollywood to direct a film, currently it's only the established singers and actors being accepted.
Start by shadowing existing directors (in television/film) to get an idea of what the job entails - chances are that the Pakistani way of doing things will be totally different to how you were taught. It doesn't matter if cameras are old, the basic principles of learning are there.
Re: How does one become a film director?
Forget bollywood, if you even manage to get through the peshawar film setup i'll eat my hat...oh darn, i so forgot they have the absolutely worst equipment and some narco-fueled budgets, not to mention actors who're always high (or willing to take a drag). So maybe you can try Kabul, or Mogadishu?
Re: How does one become a film director?
I frankly don't want my hard work getting sold for a few thousand rupees when I can go on to make a few lakh or even crores in a neighboring country. Pakistani producers don't have any interest in unique scripts. I would make a movie on my own but I don't have the money to finance it. On the other hand bollywood producers are yearning for original scripts which I have. Most my movies wont even pass the censor board in Pakistan due to* taboo subjects and boldness*. You have more freedom to make a movie in a secular society.
Thanks SawanR, I'll let you know if I need help.
