How modern is Mirpur compared to Islamabad, Lahore, Jhelum, Muzaffarabad, and so on?
I’ve been to Mirpur, Lahore, Islamabad but I suppose I only took it for face value, and don’t really know the mentality of people or day to day behaviour.

Depends on what or how one defines modern. Are you talking about the amount of infrastructure? financial capabilities like buying power, etc? industries? Cache of Intellectual capital (number of higher learning institutions for example)? business and entrepenuer opportunities? public transport? Diversity of ethnicities and minorities?
I suppose, karachi will remain a powerhouse forever in these terms. Mirpur is a small town with no visible industry, tourism, or any influence in any of the factors listed above. Sialkot, Faisalabad, Mirpur Khaas, Nawshera, Sui are other medium sized cities that are far superior to mirpur in kashmir. If I am not mistaken, a large source of revenue for the city is foriegn money sent home by mirpuris that migrated to the UK.

Mirpur is not as heavily laden with the infrastructure of other towns but in my eyes that is a good thing.
I prefer the dark ages. 
Okay I admit things have actually changed a lot these days people are becoming very obsessed with living rich and showing thier wealth by ever more extravagant buildings and competition for the latest cell phone, car, electric fan… etc.
But it wont last… the rich get richer and the poor just die.
It wont stay that way though…

Yes, I would assume that is the biggest source of income for Mirpur, since I think much of the Pakistani community in the UK is from the Mirpur District.
All the things you've mentioned are good factors to measure or determine how modern somewhere is.
It's just on the news etc you see women in Islamabad working in jobs that might be traditionally associated to men. Women don't look as dependent on their male counterparts in the bigger cities, I wanted to know if this the same for Mirpur.
In terms of pricing and trends etc I think it is modern, but that maybe because of the oversea influence.

I hope we as a people figure a manageable way to better help the poor rid themselves of the poverty trap

Mirpur is known as the most moern city in kashmir even more so then muzaffarabad it has major tourism as anything you fing in english shops you will find in the mirpur bazaars.

Mirpur is the largest city in Azad Kashmir. Its no Karachi but it has it's own natural beauty. It's a good urban city if you like to live in peace and comfort. Under Musharraf the city was thriving but obviously now things have slowed down.

Does Mirpur Khas still has this company called Volkart Brothers? i think that is a cotton industry.
