Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
I think there is halal dating, as long as thet are not alone, not touching and dating only for the purpose of finding out if someone is suitable for marriage.

If it was my children, maybe 5 dates, phonescalls/msn inbetween. I would want to know within 2 months if they were going to get married.
Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
If you are meting someone (in a restricted environment) and you have intention of marry that person (or need to know him/her so you can qualify him/her as your future spouse) then its allowed I think.
Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
(in a restricted environment)
and that is??........someone sitting in the middle between the two while they discuss??
and how can u have a restricted environment online? MSN/Skype etc etc?
Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
^ in the presence of other people, like in a family gathering, you sit at a separate table

i think one is enough, but you can also date second time with same purpose.
if you still unsure, then its mean, you have to find another person rather than sticking with same girl/boy and date several time.
make sense!!!

Dating your wife is halal.

it is known..
topic is related to being single and having date...
Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
Can you talk about sex on a "halal" date? I mean you should know whether or not you're sexually compatible. What if you want your future wife to do "certain things" and she's like no way?
Re: How does a ‘halal’ date take place ?
please dont mess halal date with such stuff.

yes, if you have any sexual deficiency, that is the time to mention it so she can decide if you are compatible or not.

The original question,
Am asking out of curiosity. Considering the number of times it is mentioned and discussed as a perfectly normal thing. Is there any sect in Islam that allows dating ? May be I misunderstood the term. Does it take place after marriage, with ones wife ? Or after Nikkah ?
I see Muslims ask for advice for a successful dating, and Muslims give useful tips ? Not talking about this forum in particular but in general.
What are the duas that a Muslim recites in order to make his/her date successful ?
doesn't mention anything that would exclude that option, so this is a valid answer.
Re: How does a ‘halal’ date take place ?
Well, my reasoning is that it is better to know about this stuff before the marriage. Because after marriage, the husband finds out that his wife is not into doing those kind of “certain things”, then that can lead to an unhealthy relationship.

Well if you have that, then you shouldn't be getting married in the first place. Doesn't Islam say that the wife has the right to divorce her husband, if her husband is sexually deficient?

exactly my point. But we can prevent that divorce by telling her up front. We heard of numerous stories where a guy hid that info from his mangetar. Yes she can take divorce but she will be labeled as a divorcee for the rest of her life.

Might be a difficult topic to broach with a complete stranger but I can see your point.

Really? That's a shame. I don't understand why we have magnis or engagements either. It's an entirely western concept. When did the Prophet get engaged to be married? I also just got engaged; but didn't really want to, I just wanted to get married.

Yes, and I also don't get why that's such a negative in our culture. My fiance is also a divorcee, btw.

There is nothing wrong in engagement. Engagement is nothing but a commitment between 2 families (baat pakkee kerna) which does not conflict with any Islamic belief.
Re: How does a 'halal' date take place ?
In that case there is a lot of hardcore halal dating going on there :D
I don't understand what the beef is with MSN (or texts, whatever). Technology has given us a way to communicate with a prospective partner in a safe and halal way, you're not in a room alone and there is no risk of things going to the next level. If anything, this should be encouraged. It certainly beats having coffee with your prospect with her mum sitting beside her.
The whole point of having an escort or a third person is to prevent any kind of sin/zina/adultery because Shaitan is bound to come in between if two people are alone like that. No matter how much confidence you have in your belief, its always good to be on the safe side. Adultery isn't just physical either and we are all familiar with the new avenues of sin this new technology has exposed us to (sexting anyone?) . So yeah, even though it might not be explicitly mentioned in Quran and Hadith to avoid MSN, texting etc., it's common sense to infer what Allah swt meant when he said it's wrong for two people to be alone and when He defined what 'Zina' was (of the mind, physical and eyes).
Back to the question, yeah the best way is to have a third person sit separately while the two of you have a conversation. He or she doesn't need to eves drop on your conversation but just having someone look over will keep a check so you don't get too comfortable.
