How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

I think they have to know a GOOD pakistani personally to say that we're good people, otherwise a lot of people don't have a good view of Pakistan.

I blame our accent for all this hate against us :D

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

The western media portrays Pakistan and her people in a negative connotation. Even the BBC which is supposed to be impartial only shows articles about corruption or terrorism.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

I have had some good experiences. Some people sympethized with our plight in terms of terrorism. I was in budapest and I was surprised to hear IT manager of my company actually knew and liked Pakistanis a lot.

But overall, not a good perception I'd say.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Generally speaking not a v good perception, which I think is partly due to the media and partly due to negative experiences when interacting with Pakistanis. This includes the perceptions of other Muslims too..

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

It's all about brainwashing from media.

Good/bad/evil is everywhere otherwise.

1- Mistreatment from a non-Pakstani is more likely be un-noticed, ignored or accepted, compared to from a Pakistani.

2- There are more chances for Pakistani to interact with Pakistani hence more chances to have bad experience.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

People usually get quiet when I tell them where I am from. This silence is enough for me to understand what a bad perception Pakistan has on people.
But I did find an Iraqi, who was especially fond of Gujranwala; and a Turkish guy who called Pakistanis 'brothers'.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Unfortunately when you mention certain places in the UK now like Bradford. People immediately think of how it's the car insurance fraud capital and then go on to blame British Pakistanis.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

White people hate black and brown people or are just irritated by them. So chill, its not like you have a benefit of doubt if you are Pakistani, Indian or Puerto Rican.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

*not a very favourable. i've noticed that they aren't very enthusiastic about it and do NOT usually talk further about Pakistan. It's strange because people do exchange a few words about the country...from touristic point of view. *

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

pakistanis=terrorists, this is what I feel! and i dont blame them.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

People (goreys) get scared when I tell them I'm an Pakistani girl. Because I'm tha BOMB :D

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

That's a rather generalising statement. I have plenty of gora friends.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Some Aussi's will ask me where I'm from, and once I say I'm from India they will bad mouth Pakistan, since they know India & Pakistan don't get on with each other.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

In the UK pakistanis are usually treated and seen the same way as they were prior to the terrorism manifestations of the past decade.
The 'practicing muslims' that support the full islamic attire/s are usually the ones who have attracted the attention of those unsavoury non-pakistani characters about that have been subject to harassment.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Idiots like these hardly give us a positive view

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

^That needs its own thread..

(Btw I think those lunatics are Bangladeshis)..

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

Maybe it does but I would rather focus on positive threads rather than negative ones. They may well be from Bangladesh but unfortunately anyone in the UK associated with this tend to be assumed to be from Pakistan.

Re: How do you think people perceive Pakistanis?

From my limited interaction with Pakistanis, I have no reason to view them any differently than those from other countries. Not a single one of them has been hostile towards me.

While at a local Walmart, a Pakistani person I knew, who was with his family on a weekend, wished me "Salaam Allekum (spelling?) - first time he had done so. He normally used to greet me in English. Subconsciously, he considered me one of his own - and I thought that was cool. Of course, I responded in kind - wallekum assalaam.
