When you have guests over … do you prepare tea in the termos? in a pot? or directly in the cups?
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
Since we nearly always do "english" tea and green tea for the non black tea drinkers they are both made in pots. The pots and cups and milk jug are heated with boiling water first (if it's cold, then the saucers too).
Milk is slightly warmed. The thing is, you can't have the tea sitting about for too long. So everything else is prepared and then the water is poured in the pot immediately before being taken to the guests. Then should be poured into cups with no longer than 3-5 mins brewing.
Even if we have 30 people around, tea is served in this way. We have a lot of tea pots.
And my tea is renowned. Where ever we go, I'm asked to make the tea if it's english tea.
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
we ask guests to eat Tea bag and sugar, drink a glass of water and then jump hazardously
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
in a pot ![]()
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
Stoppit ,doesnt the tea go cold in the pot and then again waiting time of 5-8 minutes until the guest finally have it in their hands ![]()
I used to use a teapot initially , but then got really tired of serving tepid tea … so now i have two flasks .. I throw in the teabags , boiled milk and hot water in there and close the lid tight … tea comes out piping hot and stays that way for a good few minutes …only problem is , I have to run and do the same thing all over again if i have more then 10 people present ![]()
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
CB - that is why you heat it with boiling water before you make the tea in it... same for the cups. It shouldn't be in the pot for more than 5 mins until you pour it. And that's what tea cosy's are for :)
Sorry but thermos tea is burnt. Tea should not be made with boiled milk either. Chai drinkers won't notice bad tea.. but that's not how english tea should taste.
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
yeah , I think not having a tea cosy is the actual issue … havnt been able to find one , my mom used to have a fabulous one , I am still on the look out …
English tea is quite light actually , most people that visit me like strong tea … hence why I do the “dum” tea in the thermos … But I really like your pointer about boiling milk .. I too have noticed that when milk gets boiling hot , the tea turns tasteless .. and when i just sort of heat up the milk slightly that gives the tea a beautiful color and taste … thanks so much for sharing that tip stoppit ![]()
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
- Boil water in electric kettle
- Rinse teapot with hot water
- Add loose tea and tea bags
- Add boiled water
- Cover with tea cozy to "dum"
- Wait.
- Warm milk.
- Pour milk and tea into tea cups. Add sugar to taste.
- Serve on a tray.
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
sigh!
english tea is only light if made with a blend that's not strong (think pg tips) and most english people these days pour in milk before letting the tea brew, ending up with a milky, watery mess. this is why i never let anyone make me tea. at work everyone asks me "when are we having tea time?" because they want me to make it.
proper black tea made with strong leaves (assam for example) is not weak at all and has a deep taste which you will not get if you burn it.
you need to brew the tea properly, pour into cups and then add milk slowly until it gets that dark caramel colour.
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
We do the same with one exception , we ask our guests to sit on the stove instead of jumping up and down , jumping up and down might bring our floor down if the mehman is 500 pounds heavy . 2 annay key chai k pechay hazaroon ka nuqsaan ho ja-a ga. ![]()
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
we make english tea like this:
1. boil water and throw in the tea bags
2. let it brew for afew minutes til the bubbles turn creamy color
3. meanwhile prep the cups, wash with warm water, then pour in 1cm of milk in each cup
4. when the tea is ready, pour in in the cup.
5. sugar can be poured in at stage 3 or serve in sugar pot alongside
6. stir and enjoy.
7. tea cools within ten minutes of serving
8. make sure to serve biscuits/cake slice with it
i dont like making the pakistani tea, too much hassle... the malai ruins my pans n burns
1. in a pan, add water & loose tea/tea bags & white illaichi &milk & sugar
2. when it cooks n brews n the malai comes on top then its ready to serve
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
We pour the water, milk and sugar over their head. ![]()
Only joking…my mum makes it in cups and gives it to them or just puts the pot there and then they can pour it..
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
We always use tea pots. Warmed up milk which is added as per taste. I only take 2 teaspoons of milk with my tea and I prefer the teabag left in. Im incredibly fussy about my tea and no one likes making tea for me. I once made my younger cousin make it 3 times till she got it right. She has to learn one day.
My sister got me into the habit of putting milk in first and then teabag and water, but I only drank like that for a while and went back to the teabag, water, milk way cos it's the best way.
I recently discovered Whittards Assam and OMG I cant believe iv been drinking PG Tips and calling it 'tea'. Whittards Assam defines tea and what it should taste like. It's lush.
Re: How do you serve your tea ..
Masalay wali chaa is what's served in our punjabi household and I'm almost always the one who makes it. It's not everyone's cup of tea though so I usually ask guests if they're up for the challenge or would they settle for the plain ol' kettle tea. For 3 cups chai, take two cups of water in a pan, throw in 5 green cardamoms, about a 2 inch cinnamon stick, 2 cloves, 2 petals of a star anise, a big pinch of salt and of course add 3 tea bags when the water is hot. When the tea comes to a boil, let it simmer for about 3 minutes. Then add a cup of milk. When chai comes to a boil, simmer again for 3-5 minutes and I like to finish off by bringing it to a boil once again. Pour into cups and let everyone put in sugar to their taste.
Sometimes, we also go crazy on Kashmiri chai that actually looks pink. Making that tea, using pure green tea leaves (not the teabags you buy in shops), is also an art that I haven't perfected yet. Mum's always the one to make it, takes ages to make the kahwa so it's not made too often but man it is delicious!!
