How do you present the bari?

Is it just neatly packed in a suitcase? On trays and clear boxes ready for display? Somewhere in between?

Re: How do you present the bari?

Mine was nicely packed, pinned on trays and decorated very nicely.

We did the whole exchange thingy on the day of the mehndi.

Re: How do you present the bari?

It depends if you're displaying it at an event or not. Most families I know(including mine) display it at the Mehndi. It's wrapped and covered in clear plastic or gift paper and carried in during the entrances from family members. Then it's set on a display table somewhere at the Mehndi for other guests. Even at some Mayun's, some families display the jahez that they are giving to their daughter.

If you won't be displaying it anywhere, then I assume having it all in a suitcase and handing it over would be ideal. Plus, it would save you time and money.
But, I personally like the idea of of each side of the family walking in with the bride and groom's gifts/outfits and displaying them. It adds to the pre-wedding excitement and allows others to appreciate all the money you dished out for the gifts/clothes.

We take it to the bride's house before the mehndi. The clothes are all wrapped in colorful cotton clothes and put in a suitcase. Churiyaan are usually in decorative boxes. Not sure what to do about purses and shoes. Don't want it to look tacky.

Re: How do you present the bari?

We packed each suit in baskets with coloured tissue paper and cellophane, and had matching bangles, shoes and a clutch for each outfit (for my brother's wedding, we carried it to my bhabi's mehndi). it's nice if you have a theme of some kind cos it looks pretty

Re: How do you present the bari?

what my inlaws did was that when i came to their home (now my home too) after the rukhsati, they displayed the outfits on a table, and made one of the outfits look like a bride in ghoonghat. It was pretty creative. All out boxes and the drapings of the dupatta/suit.

i dont see people displaying it anymore.

Re: How do you present the bari?

sahar, we got white boxes and arranged everything on gold tissue paper inside it. i wrapped a thin black velvet ribbon with a square diamonte buckle around the lid of the box. it was very chic! we went with a black, white and gold color scheme. we also bought little round boxes and rolled up the dupattas in there and stacked them on top of the square or rectangle boxes containing the suits, so it was like a little stack of black and white boxes all tied up in gold ribbon. it was very cute! i wish i’d taken some pics
the effect was something like this- Luxury fashion & independent designers | SSENSE

btw, you can also do this stacked box effect with lace, ribbon, buckles etc. and make your own money box for the couple. its wayyy cuter and classier than some of the rentals you can get.

you can put the shoes in clear shoe boxes and wrap them up with ribbons. you can get those from ikea or home depot.

somegroovychick -- I like the idea of boxes, saves so much hassle of arranging the clear wrap, colored tissue paper, and not to mention the hassle of finding hundreds of baskets, lol! Plus, in my family, there isn't too much of a tradition to show the gifts, so this would be perfect!
