How do you plan your meal?

I was looking for a meal planner, just for fun, there are sw out there to help you plan your meal. Khair I believe, anything a piece of code can do, our desis can do better :o So how do you plan, for like a week? What’s a must have, nice to have etc, to stay healthy that is?

Most desis have either heart problem, sugar or high/low BP, do you plan you dinners and lunches with any specific need in mind?

Please share your best every day combo, a realistic one please :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: How do you plan your meal?

We always keep halaal meat (lamb) in the freezer, but make goshth about every couple weeks. I also keep chicken in the freezer, legs and breast to whip up last minute baked meals. It's easy to marinate and cook it, also healthy. I'm big on veggies like brocolli, carrots, cabbage, brussel sprouts, cauliflower. I eat them often, but my husband won't touch any of it. So I sneak in some corn or potatoes in there for him. Steaks are also good to have on hand for quick meals.
I really don't plan my weekly meals, but maybe 2 days in advance I try to organize what we have and what we need to buy. Some things can be stocked, frozen, but most things should be fresh. We're also big on pastas for our meat free days. I cook anywhere from 5-6 days a week. So we occasionally have a delivery day, usually Chinese.

Re: How do you plan your meal?

We have either biryani or pulao on fridays, a must.
rest of the week we have gosht once a week, fish once a week.
Other than that we have dals and veggies, pastas etc.
This is pretty much set out.

Re: How do you plan your meal?

sabah...:)
i do plan my meals quite often......but not in the super formal way ....

i know the prefered dishes by my family .......i write all of them on a paper (i'm horrible at remembering everything ...so just to be on safe side....!!

then roughly i cook meat ....veggies n lentils/rice on alternate days .....like monday is for meat in main course .....tuesday for veggies n wednesday for rice/lentils etc.

but i can change it when required ......i usually plan for a week on saturday/sunday ......then do my grocery once in week according to my plan ....plus i try to keep some goodies in my freezer .....so they come in handy when needed .....like seekh/shami kababs .....spring rolls....koftay.....marinated meat .....gajar ka halwa ..boiled n shredded chicken ...bhallay (for dahi bhallay) etc. etc.

plus i usually make garlic paste once in a month or so .....n have some peeled garlic too ......also keep some chopped ginger in freezer .....

we don't dine out .....mainly because of halal haram issue .....so i cook daily ....
on week days breakfast is everyone's own choice ...i ask them a night before .....
on weekends we take breakfast together n same ....like stuffed paratha or anything we don't get time for during the week

ideally i would go for more veggies than we r having currently ....but i live among fussy eaters .....so have limited choices

hope i made some sense

Re: How do you plan your meal?

lol, i only cook what's in the fridge, hardly ever plan.

Usually around 3, I get a call from the "boss" and he tells me what he feels like.

Re: How do you plan your meal?

I try to plan but rarely follow it so nowadays I usually mix and match with the food I have at home already and pick up any extra ingredients every other day on the way home from work.

I do belong to a 'Box club' whereby I pay a set amount of money each month to a local farm and every week I get a box of assorted fresh organic fruit and vegetables. Sometimes it's a bit hit and miss with the contents but the summer season produce makes it worth while.
