lets suppose, in daily life if I realize that I have disobeyed my Lord (Allah forbid) in any way, what **thoughts **and actions would you suggest me to develop that would help me in consoling my heart and feel happy / satisfied again, and make sure I don’t repeat such mistakes in future ?

Toba tilla kar lain , Allah maaf karnay wala hay, yeh konsee mushkil baat hay ?
The beauty of Allah's blessings is that you do not need any particular time , place or environment to ask Allah's forgiveness.
one Alim said in his Khutaba and now it is part of my duaas too" A Allah main bohat gunah gar hoon , magar taree rehmat meray guanhoon say bohat baree hay lihaza maree khatain maaf farma day"
Re: How do you overcome your sense of guilt ?
I always ask Allah(SWT) to forgive me when I feel like I have disobeyed him.

JazakAllah khair everyone for the kind sharing. Your words of wisdom would inshaAllah prove helpful for people like me.
Once a scholar mentioned that according to a hadith, there are some people who after even committing the smallest of the sins feel as if a mountain has been placed on their shoulders, while others after even committing the biggest of the sins move it off themselves as if moving a fly off their nose.
Some of the better ways of repenting might be tears of sincerity in the darkness of the nights, sadaqa-e-Jaria, better concentration in good deeds,...etc.
As in a hadith the prophets advised us to follow up a bad deed with a good one, so that the good deeds nullify / reduce the effect of that bad deed. Allah knows BEST!

A bad deed cannot equate one good deed, right ? On a practical level we are all humans and not free of temptations and can go stray in a jiffy.
But since We do not know how big a bad deed is , what punishment it carries, on the flip side we do not know how much reward a good deed carries , so I guess many many good deeds have to follow one single bad deed no matter how trivial this bad deed seems to be. Better safe than sorry people should strive to lead sin free lives.
Re: How do you overcome your sense of guilt ?
you embrace it. realize the mistake you made or what you was coerced into. promise your self not to recommit it, stop others from committing it. make peace with it.
Allah swt can pardon, the best.
if the human intent is pure, to seek redemption & live honorably and humbly, thereafter.
Yeah its all a matter of you niyah, good intention. When you have that and ask for forgiveness sincerely it really helps. In some situations When I asked for forgiveness I really felt it.
Re: How do you overcome your sense of guilt ?
In the Quran, Allah's Names especially Ya-Rahim; Ya-Rahman; are mentioned several times. Almost every couple of sentences Allah has mentioned his Forgiving Trait...of course that does not mean we continue comitting sins hoping one day Allah SWT will give us the opportunity to beg for His forgivness, but it definately means, that once you have comitted a sin, regardless of its degree Allah is the Oft-Merciful and Most Forgiving.. so when you Beg for His forgiveness and Mercy, He will forgive you.
Just imagine: sometimes a friend, relative, or a spouse may hurt you, either intentionally or untentionally...he/she feels bad, for whatever reason, and decides to say sorry. If that person was to say it without thier heart invested...you as a wise human being would be able to detect it within seconds. Had the person showed face, with tears and sincerety, once again your heart would testify and you would know this person is actually apologetic. Allah SWT is the Most-Wise and All-Knower, just imagine how easy it is for Him to detect the sincerety of our repetance...
(O Lord) You are our guardian, so forgive us and have mercy on us and You are the best of the forgivers
[surah Al-A'raf; 7: 155]
Re: How do you overcome your sense of guilt ?
saaya27, you are right in giving Quranic references. indeed, there is a lot alot of mercy indicated by Allah swt in Quran.
we need to be pure when we ask for it and live according to a humble state.
