Get married.

Re: How do you gain weight???

When you eat more try to do little work out too.
As you said potato/banana are complex carbs. They take longer to break.
So they may be making you NOT hungry for longer periods.
So do lil work out to improve matabolism.

Re: How do you gain weight???

Here is a pretty recent thread on the subject…hope you find it useful!

I too have been trying to put on a few pounds... and here are some of the things that have sort of deemed helpful.

  • Try to eat a fairly HUGE breakfast... it'll open up your apetite for the remainder of the day. I consume atleast 600 calories during breakfast. (that in consideration to my height-weight ratio is more than enough).

  • Eat a healthy snack between breakfast and lunch. (I usually drink an Ensure, or eat fruits: Consume about 200-400 calories)

  • For lunch, once again, try to consume about 600 calories.

  • Snack, consisting of 200-400 calories.

  • Dinner, 600 calories.

I have realized that the best way for me to eat enough to gain 1-2 Lb per month is to keep a count of my calory intake.

The amount of calories you need to gain the amount of weight that you want to, depends on your height and your current weight.

  • Avoid drinking carbonated sodas (Coke, Pepsi, etc.).

  • Include dried fruits/nuts in your deit. (I eat 5 almonds a day- without fail.)

  • Protein shakes are a good and healthy way of increasing your caloric intake.

  • Pasta & bread sould become you best friends!

Best of luck. .. to the both of us! :)

yeah you know I've heard this before..but I gain like a pound or two and then suddenly i'll get lax and not eat, and lose like five.

It's so hard to eat a big anything....like i can't eat a BIG breakfast. it takes me forever to eat, and I eventually get tired of swallowing. I like things that I dont have to chew on (chewing is tiresome for me), so maybe i'll try the protien shakes. I havent tried those.

OMG, you're just like me! I hate having to chew my food... it is soooo draining! Lol.

Yeah, try the protein shakes... and Ensure PLUS. I drink about 3 Ensure Plus's per day and it has helped me a tad.

Honestly, the sad reality is that you won't be able to gain much weight by just drinking protein shakes/etc... you will actually have to increase your (solid) food intake.

Force yourself to eat a bit more than usual. It won't be easy trust me BUT in time your system/body will get used to it. Include fruits in your breakfast... it might help a little.

I used to consume only about 1200 calories per day which was obviously not enough to sustain my system... now I have increased my caloric intake to 2200-2400 which is what I need to gain the targeted weight.

FORCE yourself to eat more! Gaining the extra Lbs won't happen on its own, you will have to make a lot of effort to achieve it.

Re: How do you gain weight???

There is a misconception that underweight/skinny people should not exercise/workout. Exercise is the best way to attain and maintain ideal weight - whether you need to lose or gain weight to get to that. It increases your metabolism and stabilizes body's need for fuel i.e. food. Best way to play with body weight is to exercise and eat healthy. Exercise will improve your hunger and eating routine.

Re: How do you gain weight???

Something that works really well is instant oatmeal. My son really enjoys it and I make such a calorie-packed meal of it! I take one packet of cinnamon oatmeal and mix in one serving of cinnamon applesauce. Then a teaspoon of e.v. olive oil, a teaspoon of summer flower honey and a crushed vitamin. Along with it, he has 8 oz of whole milk mixed with a packet of Carnation instant breakfast. A truly healthy and calorie-packed breakfast...about 400 calories for the oatmeal and 280 calories for the instant breakfast.
