Let me schedule a meeting for next week.
Re: How Do you Fire a Volunteer?
I get it wrong so I admit my mistake... thought u talking abt a MOD... hope u wont mind :)
How many times do we get to see such candid admissions? Good for you, Matata the Hakuna!
Now like my post.
Re: How Do you Fire a Volunteer?
that's a good suggestion.....the problem is that contribution is needed......and there are others that want to be active participants but can't because the position is full......
I didn't realize there are limits in terms of # of positions available to fill. In parallel to Mr. T's suggestion (which you will most certainly find doesn't measure upnto mine), why not remove the limits on # of positions. More the merrier.
(I would have also added : why not go easy on off topic posts. But that wouldn't be prudent).
Re: How Do you Fire a Volunteer?
Just get rid of him/her after discussing it with the committee. As a volunteer there isnt much legal wrangling. In a sense you're dismissing not sacking.
Not like they're paid.
Re: How Do you Fire a Volunteer?
there isn't a restriction on the # in terms of who can participate in the events....but on a global level, there are restrictions on representation based on the size of the office and ultimately it does end up being quite a prestigious position because you become part of an elite group that is near and dear to the CEO.......

In addition to what bro TLK suggested, you can raise a motion in the next meeting to set objective targets and tangible roles and responsibilities for each committee member and have them sign up to those roles and responsibilities. Of course the majority who are pulling their weight will sign up naturally to the new motion. But it will also make it clear to the less motivated one to start pulling their weight. It is usually the mundane repetitive things that do not get done, but are the things that need to be done the most, especially so if the volunteer group is a registered charity.
Make it very clear, exceedingly clear that holding a position infers work of this type. Furthermore capability assessments should be undertaken in a volunteer organisation rather than another assess your work ... Give self-assessment forms to all committee members to assess themselves, questions could be rank between 1 to 5 how we'll you have met your targets this period.
The moment you have many people knocking on the door for filling up positions then it becomes clear that more regular elections should be held for filling up the posts. So in the long run you can depend on electoral processes to weed out such people.
Re: How Do you Fire a Volunteer?
This position seems to be geared towards moving up the corporate ladder - prestigious ; elite ; near and dear to CEO. Goes a bit against the spirit of volunteering, doesn't it?
Does the company pay for the volunteers time? Or is the work done after hours? Are meetings held after hours also?
Maybe let the folks who want recognition fill up this glamorous volunteering assignment. Probably other opportunities exist to do good. But with less recognition.
