By gora I mean these Westerners. What do you tell them, guy looks at girl, girl looks at guy. If they both like each other physically and than mommy looks at family (these two things can happen in any order) and than a wedding takes place.
This one Islamic website, don’t remember which one (a real one, I think ISNA.com) has a question and answer section about Islam. So a question comes that why is dating not allowed in Islam? Well the maulvi gave the most rediculous answer ever. Instead of telling that a non mehram guy and a girl are not allowed to be togather alone and/or talk, he just attacks dating in a very stupid manner. He claims that when two people are dating they are not honest with each other as they are putting on their best face (character wise). And he just expanded on this.
what is the solution? Marry someone you have only seen and hardly know at all?

dont they have match making services in US? I mean arranged does not mean forced..and depending on how conservative the families are, ppl get a chance to meet and get to know one another, and they can decide whether to go forward with it or not and its not like they get married rigth away there is time to further get to know the person and then decide to get married.
As far as some mullahs go, they really need to learn some communication skills.

Arranged does not mean "forced" and it doesn't mean "marrying a stranger." It just means that your family and friends are helping you to find the right person to spend your future with. There are different types of arranged marriage, most people assume the definitions I mentioned above. You can also explain that it's not simply that.
