How do you deal with stereotypes associated with Pakistan?

I’ve got friends from all over the subcontinant, but theres always two stereotypes for them when I tell them I’m from Pakistan

  1. I’m from the mountains where my daily life back home consists of praying and killing goats, hate the West, and love the Taliban

2)My people are seedy, and comical in our actions, we smell, we’re not to be taken serious, we have a backward culture and we are extremely patriotic shouting Pakistan zindabad everywhere everyday

Most of the time it’s just jokes, but I’d like to know how do you guys feel/deal with it when people stereotype where you’re from, personally I do still feel sad to be stereotyped like this.

Re: How do you deal with stereotypes associated with Pakistan?

In my opinion, stereotypes remain stereotypes because the ones who are being made fun of accept them as such. I love to shoot down any stereotypes people may have about me based on my nationality. There is a fine line between lighthearted humor and insult, the ones you typed above seem like the latter to me.

If someone says something like that to me (no one has ever so far), I’d be honest and straight away tell them STFU!
