Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
This will be my first Eid after moving to Dubai, so the first time that I won't have to take a day off for Eid, because Eid is a public holiday here anyway. :)
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
Night before get together down the house where we will celebrate eid, usually one of my puppo's or khalas house...
all the mums and aunts cook food, all the cousins dig in and help a little but end up messing around more LOL, and eat loads of junk..
Day of Eid I sleep in and usually miss Eid namaz :( Brother and dad go to the masjib and mum makes kheer, savaiyan and Pilau rice...then all my mamoos and uncles come to our house to have eid breakfast after reading Eid namaz...
I'm still in my grunges at this point, Call all friends to wish the Eid mubarik then start getting ready. Go for Eid dinner to my cousins around 1pm, then all the family have an Eid feast (around 35 of us) It's fun with all my cousins and stuff:)
After eating we go and visit some other families and ppl who are ill etc, then all the Mums and aunts go to people's houses, boys do their own thing and us girls chill out, go for a drive, may see a movie or go out to dinner in the night...
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
Sometimes out-of-town relatives are gathered at my parents’ place. Sometimes they are not. We all get dressed up in the morning and go to the mosque. Read namaz, and meet/greet all those people we don’t usually see.
Then normally my mother hosts an afternoon gathering, and lots of people come over. Then usually we go to a few more places, and then to someone’s house for dinner. MashAllah we get to see a lot of family and close friends.
The one Eid I spent in Karachi I found incredibly boring . The women didn’t really go out at all (not even to the mosque, which I think is an unfortunate pattern). We just spent the day sitting around all dressed up hoping someone would come visit.
This year my husband just started a new job, so he can’t take off. I’ll go to my parents’ in the morning, go for namaz. Then lots of people are coming over in the late morning/noon time. In the afternoon we are visiting someone else, and then going to a close family friend’s for dinner. I can’t wait.
But the outfit Nani had made for me probably won’t arrive on time
, so I will wear another new shalwar kamiz I have that Ammi has to fix bit to make it fit and fall right.
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
Nite before: usually blow out with friends at their or my house. The plan is to stay up till namaz and then goto sleep. Couple of hours before the namaz everyone sleeps (or go home)
Early morning: Calls starts flying everywhere. Wake everyone up - try to goto namaz at one place and miss the first 3 scheduled namaz and then wait for some special molwi to come and do it for us (each molwi can only do Eid namaz once per day)
After namaz: FRIENDS goto some junk food place ... KFC / Popeyes etc. Then go home and get eat / greet family. Get some nap if lucky.
Family meet up later in the day.
Keep meeting friends for weeks to come.
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
night before, clothes ready for the Eid.
any plans to go for chaan raat.
cooking, for Eid, so the actual day is spent with guests and not in the kitchen.
prayers of Eid in mosque or at home, visits to & from relatives & extended family, friends & colleagues, or phone calls for Eid wishes, over mithai and tea, memorable pictures taken, & dinner with closest family or friends.
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
lol has anyone noticed...everyone has a different spelling for saviyan (even I spelled it different) :D
Re: How do you celebrate Eid?
I"m flying off to Bahrain for Eid with my parents ![]()
Wake upm go for Eid namaaz, come back, have sevaiyaN (or semaiyaN or however you spell it) and sheer khorma (or however you spell it). Phone Karachi, the go out for the big Eid lunch with the whole expat Pakistani community of Bahrain and the fake crowd being fake nice to each other whilst my brother and I and my bhabi get bored silly ![]()
In the evening, go round for ‘open house’ visits to various people’s homes which is marginally, just marginally, more fun.
