Re: how do u plan a trip?
Go to websites like trip adviser, frommmer's or virtual tourist. You will find lots and lots tips and advice on everything from hotels, restaraunts, sight seeing...even planned itineraries to follow. Decide on what you can manage according to your time and budget. Figure out if you need to purchase tickets in advance for any attractions. Make your bookings. It's not that hard. Don't freak out so much that you don't enjoy your trip.
Also, be spontaneous. You'll figure things out yourself once you get there. Every hotel has concierge/ help desks to answer your questions and help plan things.

Ideally, I would make the city I am flying into, my base station. I will see how many day trips I can make so I can come back to the base city for night. I like to keep overnight trips to minimum.
Re: how do u plan a trip?
Slightly off topic
My friend have actually just come back from travelling in Europe. He went to about 10 countries. Anyway, he has just said a toothbrush, spare underwear and you're good to go! Lol. Which if you think about it would be amazing the adventure side to it that is..
Re: how do u plan a trip?
I’ve been to Malaysia many times…PM me what you are looking for and I will answer in detail. What you like in particular… shopping, beaches, mountains, etc. I suggest you include Bangkok as well. You will enjoy it more…

Information regarding Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore trip
Being a frequent traveller to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore here are my suggestions :
- Always apply Transit (TR) Visa for Thailand. It is always Double Entry and valid for 30 days on each entry. It is also cheaper than Single entry Tourist Visa.
- Get a Single Entry Visa for Malaysia and Singapore
- Purchase return ticket for Bangkok only. It is between Rs. 40k to 57k. Book onward journeys online on AIR ASIA (budget airline). Sectors : Bangkok - Phuket , Phuket - Kuala Lumpur , Singapore - Bangkok.
- Travel to Bangkok. Take the airport train to city Makassan station. Only 90 bhat express train and 45 bhat normal. Train goes from airport’s basement. Taxi will cost you 450 bhat. Stay on Sukhumvit Road (near Nana BTS station) or Khaosan Road (backpackers paradise). Both places offer tons of enjoyment. See temples and various other places in Bangkok. Stay 7 days. Travel to Pattaya beach for 3 days. Takes 1.5 hours by bus or taxi. then return to Bangkok.
- Take Air Asia domestic flight to Phuket Island in the South. You can also take overnight luxury bus. In Phuket hire a motorbike and ride all over island. See magnificent white beaches, private spots, crystal clear water and nightlife. Take boat to Phi Phi Island (go in the morning and return in evening) or you can stay for 1 or 2 days.
- Take you pre-booked flight from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur.
- In Kuala Lumpur, take ERL (airport train) to Central Station or take a BUS to city. Then take taxi to Bukit Bintang Road (called Golden Triangle). It is near all major attractions. Stay 5 days.
- Take a Bus from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. Takes 4.5 hours.
- Stay in Singapore for 3 days.
- Take pre-booked Air Asia flight from Singapore to Bangkok. You have TRANSIT Visa so you can enter Bangkok again for 30 days. Stay 3 days.
- Take flight back to Pakistan.
Total cost including Ticket, Hotel, Food, Enjoyment for 29 day tour will be less than Rs. 170,000. If you are 2 or 3 people travelling together, the cost will come down to Rs. 140,000 each.
I can recommend hotels and guest houses where you can stay.
You can buy Air Asia ticket on-line using your personal credit card. Many travel agents also book for their clients. I can refer you to one in Islamabad.
NoWorNeVeR, here is the plan I would follow :
- Visa Expense for 2 people : Thailand 8,000 Malaysia 2,000 = 10,000
- Return Ticket ISB - BKK - ISB on Thai Airways : 57,000 x 2 = 114,000
- Air Asia Ticket Bangkok - Phuket (if booked in 2-3 days from today) : 4,800 x 2 = 9,600
- Air Asia Ticket Phuket - Kuala Lumpur (if booked in 2-3 days from today) : 6,000 x 2 = 12,000
- Air Asia Ticket Kuala Lumpur - Bangkok (if booked in 2-3 days from today) : 5,800 x 2 = 11,600
Day 1 Arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok in morning. As you will be with wife, I recommend to take Taxi and go to hotel. Start with 300 bhat, do not pay more than 400 bhat. They will offer you luxury cars for 1000 bhat as well. Don’t listen to them. Stay at any one of these 3 hotels. Maxims Inn Soi 7 (Maxim’s Inn Home Page) , Swasdee Hotel Soi 8 (Budget Sukhumvit Hotels-Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn -The budget hotels in Sukhumvit ,Bangkok Thailand, find your cheap accommodations& lodgings in Sukhumvit road with special discount) or Majestic Suites Soi 3 (Majestic Suites Nana Bangkok, Discount Hotel Rooms and Budget Hotel in Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road.). “Soi” means street. Book 4 nights. You are in the heart of Bangkok shopping area. After having some rest, have lunch at at Soi 3 restaurants. Arabian, Turkish, Pakistani, Indian, Egyptian, Lebanese, Shawarma, etc. Fast foods are abundant but not halal. BK, KFC, McDonalds, etc. You are close to BTS Sky Train stations. This is an elevated train that travels the whole of Sukhumvit Road and other places. Cars below, train above. Go to “Nana” Station and head towards “Siam” Station. Get off and visit Siam Paragon shopping plaza, Ocean World, Central World (nearby). These are huge shopping centres. It will take approx 4~5 hours. Again take train from “Siam Station” and go towards “National Stadium” Station. Visit the MBK / Tokyu shopping complex. It’s huge. Also see Emporium Complex at “Ekammai” Station if you have time. These Skytrain stations are connected to shopping plazas through walkways. When you return at night visit the shops of Sukhumvit Road (around Nana Station). Have fresh Pineapples, Sweet Coconuts (small ones, amazing taste) from street vendors. Thai vegetable soups, etc. All street vendors are hygienically clean, nothing to worry. You will see 99% Europeans there. There are many cafe’s along the road. Many Tuk Tuk (Rickshaw) drivers will approach you and offer ride to gemstone shops, etc. for Free. Don’t listen to them and refuse politely.
Day 2 Take Taxi to Grand Palace around 10 AM. It is about 8 km away. See the WAT’S (Wat means temple) nearby. Take Chao Phraya River cruise (river of the Kings) for 1 or 2 hours. It is right besides the WAT. Have lunch at Khaosan Road (back packers paradise). It is just 1 km away from Grand Palace. Take taxi. Khaosan Road hustle bustle starts in the evening and end next morning. Walk to Rambuttri Street nearby. DO NOT miss eating Banana Pancakes made with fresh bananas in 3 minutes. Walk towards Phra Arthit road. (Khaosan, Rambuttri and Phra Arthit roads are interconnected, walkable, less cars). On Phra Arthit Road corner (opposite the FORT), have dinner at ROTI MATABA, a muslim eatry since 1945. Have their Banana Pancake. You will definitely eat 5 more. Many cafes along the road to enjoy. Return to your hotel taking Taxi. Taxis in Bangkok are metered and very cheap.
Day 3 Take Taxi to Pratunam market (about 4 km away). It is the largest clothing market in Asia. Visit Pantip plaza on opposite side (all floors computer stuff). Have lunch at any Muslim restaurant. Go to Silom Road. It has many elegant shops. These are two parallel roads, financial district of Bangkok. Take Taxi and go to China Town. It is not far from Silom Road. See Little India which is next to China Town.
Day 4 Spend as you like. See what you missed. You can go to “Mo Chit” Station using BTS Sky train and visit Chatuchak market. It’s known as Thai handicrafts markets. Amazing stuff there. It is open on Sundays only (mainly for tourists) or Friday afternoon when mostly local Thai’s visit it.
Day 5 Honeymoon Begins . Take domestic Air Asia flight to Phuket Island. Arrive around noon. Take a VAN or Taxi to Patong Beach. Once there, book any hotel for 2 nights..Double room for 600~800 bhat per night. Patong has hustle bustle and it is the main beach on island. Enjoy at beach. See the markets, restaurants and nightlife at Patong. Phuket Island has every luxury you can imagine off.
Day 6 Hire a motorbike in morning (cars also available) and ride towards Karon beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi beach, Prom Thep Cape (very nice) and Rawai beach (very nice). It is like a circular road on the island. Takes an hour due to hills. You will have breath taking views of sea with crystal clear water and white sand beaches. These beaches come while travelling left from Patong beach when you are facing the sea. If you go right, there is Kamala beach, Surin beach, etc. then comes the airport where u landed. Kamala beach is also nice. I used to take rounds of island 2 or 3 times a day, at night too. And sit and relax on nice spots. You can find halal food everywhere. Now you have seen all spots on the Island. If you still want to stay at Patong, GOOD, otherwise check out and stay at the private place you like most for next 3 days. There are also some hidden beaches (spots) which have entry fee. You will have more privacy there (hide behind a rock)
http://www.pakwheels.com/forums/images/smilies/smiley-smile.gif
Day 7 Spend on the Island enjoying. Para gliding and other water sports.
Day 8 Take tour to Phi Phi Island. The boats go from main Pier in Rawai beach but you can book this tour right from Patong beach. Many travel shops. Stay in Phi Phi Island for 1 night.
Day 9 Come back to Phuket island in afternoon.
Day 10 Spend the day enjoying. Hire a boat or sit and relax at beach sipping coconuts, pineapples, etc.
Day 11 Take flight to Kuala Lumpur. You will land at LCCT terminal (Low Cost Carrier Terminal). It is about 2 km away from Main Terminal. Kuala Lumpur airport is huge. It is about 1 hour away from city centre. You can take a luxury bus from outside LCCT terminal. It will drop you to centre of city. Now take Taxi and go to BUKIT BINTANG road. You can choose any hotel between Ringgit 80 ~ 120. For example, Aura Hotel, etc. There are many Shopping Plazas at Bukit Bintang Road. Visit the food street nearby which is active the whole night.
Day 12 Visit Petronas Twin Towers, Central markets, Bird Park.
Day 13 Visit China town and other attractions.
Day 14 Hire a Taxi and go to Genting Highlands early morning. It is entertainment complex. Return at night.
Day 15 Spend the day as you like.
Day 16 Take Air Asia Flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok.
Day 17 Spend in Bangkok enjoying.
Day 18 Take Thai Airways back to Islamabad.
Cost for 18 days including hotel, entertainment, food and local travel, tours + a little bit of shopping will be Rs. 120,000
Total Tour expenses: 157,200 (tickets) + 120,000 maximum (could be 100,000) = Rs. 277,200
Option:
I would highly recommend to drop Singapore. You should include Hong Kong. From Kuala Lumpur, take Air Asia flight to Hong Kong and then Hong Kong to Bangkok. You can also take flight from Phuket to Hong Kong, cutting off Malaysia. I have lived in Hong Kong and know places which are cheaper to stay. It is the most beautiful place, has abundant places to see like The Peak, Ocean Park, Aberdeen, Stanlay Bay, Dinseyland, Central area, nightlife + best shopping in the world and tall skyscrapers. 5 nights will cost you additional Rs. 60,000 including visa, air tickets, hotel and transport for both husband and wife. Hong Kong visa is processed by Cathay Pacific office in Islamabad. They charge Rs. 6000 per person and it takes 4~6 weeks. It is a Label that comes in Post and then fixed on your passport. I’ve my personal friend there who can do it for you. I can also give you step by step instructions for Hong Kong.
NoWorNever, here is the amended plan from Day 16.
Day 16 - Take Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong. Clear Immigration and customs. You will be amazed to see how beautiful Hong Kong airport is. Among top 3 in the world. After Exit, you will find currency exchange on right side. Change US$ 100 only. You should use two ways to reach city. Either Airport Express Train (takes 23 minutes) or a Bus (takes 1 hour). HK Airport Express is more advanced than those in Thai and Malaysia. Follow the signs. I recommend Bus because it offers nice views. You can use train on return but still I recommend Bus. Airport express train costs HK$180 return trip. Bus costs HK$33 each way. Hong Kong buses are double deck and latest, air-conditioned, clean and comfortable. Sit on upper deck in front row if available so you can see views from windscreen. Bus will reach Nathan Road. It is a long stretch of road, more than 5 km having several MTR (underground train) stations and thousands of shops and buildings. It is the Kowloon area. Get off at MIRADOR MANSIONS Bus Stop. Tell the driver. It is next to Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hotel. There are many buildings so don’t get confused. Touts will come to you offering rooms. DO NOT listen to them. Enter Mirador Mansions, you will see many shop on the Ground floor. Take Lift and reach Floor 16, Flat B3. VINCENT GUEST HOUSE. Ask for MISS APPLE. She is a very nice Chinese lady. Get a room with double bed. for HK$ 150 to 180 (approx. Rs. 1600 ~ 2000 per night). Ask her for window room. Rooms are small because it is Hong Kong, but with attached bath and shower. Please note hotels in Hong Kong are very very expensive. Cheapest you will find is US$100 per night, so Vincent Guest House is much better. The lifts operate 24 hours, so no worries. Mirador Mansions has their own security staff. Have lunch or dinner. You can find all kinds of fast food chains on every corner of HK, Halal food is also available nearby. After some rest, go out walking towards STAR FERRY. It is about 10 minute walk from Mirador Mansions. You will pass many 5 star hotels like Peninsula, etc and shopping centres. Next to Star Ferry is a sitting area for tourists. Go there, You will have breath taking views of Sky scrapers on Hong Kong Island across the channel. There is a must watch lighting show on buildings at 8 PM. You will also see cruise ships at the Star Cruises pier. There is also a big shopping centre besides sea. Nice cafes and restaurants inside. You get view of Yachts passing by. Come back to hotel walking and window shopping various shops as it will be night time.
Day 17 - Go to Star Ferry and take ferry to Central Pier. Use the walkway to Bus stop. Take bus to Ocean Park (Aberdeen), ride the cabin car which crosses peaks. Enjoy sea world show and numerous other rides. Come back using escalators, it is one of longest outside escalator in the world. Just like coming down from Peer Sohawa to Blue Area. Then take bus and go to Stanley Bay and Repluse Bay beaches. In the evening come back to Central and see hundred of branded and non-branded shops. Its a paradise. Take Mid Levels Escalator, longest escalator in the world. it reaches different streets on the hill and each street has shops, cafes, bars, etc. Take Star Ferry back to hotel.
Day 18 - Go to Star Ferry and take ferry to Central Pier. Take bus to THE PEAK TRAM. Purchase tickets and sit in the TRAM. It will take you to top of Hong Kong Island. All Sky scrapers you will feel tilting. Because it is very steep. Like going to Peer Sohawa straight up on TRAM. Breath taking views of Harbor, Kowloon and HK Island. Many cafes, fast food chains and shopping up there. Enjoy and then come back to Hotel.
Day 19 - Go to MTR Train Station besides Mirador Mansion at 9 AM. It is called “TSIM TSA TSUI” station. It is 2 minutes walk from your room. Take train to Central MTR Station. Now take train to DISNEY LAND.. Enjoy there. One or two station after Disney Land station, there is a station where you take CABLE CAR and go to BIG BUDDHA mountain. Do it if you have time. The cable car in long goes over Water. Enjoy and then come back to Hotel.
Day 20 - Go to MTR Train Station besides Mirador Mansion and take train to MONG KOK station. in evening. Now visit NIGHT MARKET, it is flea market. When shops close, the whole street is taken by vendor stalls. Besides night market many many shops also. Shoes, clothng, computers, jewellery, bags, food, etc etc.
Day 21 - Take Air Asia flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok. The Airport BUS can be taken just outside Mirador Mansion on Nathan Road. You can see the sign.
Day 22 - Spend in Bangkok enjoying.
Day 23 - Take Thai Airways flight back to Islamabad.
Hong Kong standard is higher than Thailand and Malaysia. And the beauty and shopping is outclass.
Re: how do u plan a trip?
Cox Bazar is in Bangladesh… The beaches are not as clean as those in Thailand and Malaysia.
I love Thai beaches, they have crystal clear turquoise water and milk powder sand.
Re: how do u plan a trip?
I wouldn't plan everything prior to the trip, unless I was going to visit cities that are far from each others, for example when I was going to Pakistan last May I wanted to book domestic flight tickets before arrival but I was advised to buy them from Pakistan itself which I did and it was easy but in some other countries it might be difficult to find tickets if you try to book them a day or so before the internal trip date. So normally I think it's better to also book the internal flights tickets to feel secure about that and not think about it on your way .
Hotels must also be booked prior to the trip, if possible ! Especially if you like a specific hotel or if you know that the city you are going to attracts lots of tourists.
My plans in general are affected by the duration of the trip, the budget I have for the trip, my health as I may feel too tired to travel within the country after arrival, and of course people traveling with me as they might prefer to visit/not to visit certain places.
Tickets and Visas (if needed) are first steps of course .
