how do u make it work?

how do make ur week work for u? rather than letting the hussle bustle of work life/uni life, kids and all other chaos affect u?

Those who dont live with their parents, or are married with/without kids, those that work… how do u manage not eating out all the time?

Do you take homemade lunches or dont mind buying them during the week.. do u have dinner ready everyday or do u make it a few days before and freeze it… how does it work for u?

With a mortgage and all.. im trying to stay on top of things.. plus, its such a task trying to eat out everyday. I hate it…

I spent yesterday, cooking dinner for the next few days and packing it in different containers for days when i dont have the strength to cook.. then i made lunch stuff.. and froze that too.

Im hoping with the bigger freezer, i can be on top of my lunch and dinner routine.

so how do u guys manage the schedule?

Make dinner and lunches on Sunday and freeze them.Since you didn;teat them they will not be stale handis.Just manage it, write 2 week meal plan ahead.Whenever you get home microwave it and its ready.
Even though I am stay at home mom but I cook 3 or 4 handis on Sunday or Monday so I can run different errands or I have volunteers at Zafi school so I cannot cook everyday.

Re: how do u make it work?

sadzz, i'm with you sista!! We have been married over 10 years and have NEVER really been able to cook at home on a daily basis. Cooking at home has always been either a special thing or a "i'm just gonna make myself a sammich" thing.

I don't know HOW some people do it. Both of us work full time, she works a tad bit harder with her on call stuff. We get home, we bring home the laddoo from day care and from the time we come home to the time she goes to bed at around 8 PM, we are on the living room floor playing with her and rough housing. Who has the time or the energy to COOK?

Re: how do u make it work?

when my mom and dad were in pakistan it was me and my sister who were handling and doing all the house hold chores ... and the way we went about it was she cooked two dishes on sunday and i cooked two and we went through the week on those 4 dishes and take out once max twice a week ... and it actually wasn't all that bad

Re: how do u make it work?

cooking = therapy.

grant it the intensity of the meals is less on the weekdays; like we like pasta; salads with grilled meats or baked chicken on weekday and on weekends its all out cooking.

Re: how do u make it work?

Cooking on Sunday and freezing little of everything in small containers so when you are running late - you just defrost and add some masala and you are set for dinner.

I did the cooking on weekends and mid-week, freezing routine for almost 3 years, got really sick of it frankly.

Now we just get our food cooked 3 times a week by a Pakistani lady, its home-made, lasts us 2 days and is cheaper than eating out ..... Mein bhi khush, miyaan bhi khush :D

Re: how do u make it work?

^lol! hahaha...

actually, we aint big on salans and stuff so it's not too bad... BUT having said that, i find it easier to make a salan and freeze it in two different containers...

we were doing the grilled stuff and steamed veggies for a few months (weeks probably) and it was going well.. but sometimes u just get tired of eating those things.. hence ive decided to just freeze things here and there.

aahmed... i know. i dont have the energy to cook. We get home at like 7, I dont even get a chance to change outta my work clothes.. and im running after munchkin, trying to get her to have a bath, have dinner, put her to sleep.. she sleeps at almost 9.30.. so we're exhausted by that stage. And the hubz HATES having me in the kitchen after work.. he said he'd rather we get takeway instead... sweet... but who can eat out everyday?!
