Okay I don’t get how some movie stars who are naturally brown or dark colored…once they enter bollywood, they magically look gori chitti? Is it really just the foundation? Because when we see girls who wear a lighter colored foundation…we can totally tell cause they end up looking gray or just not naturally gori also even when I wear a little lighter colored foundation the camera flash in pictures TOTALLY shows the fake foundation…
It’s almost impossible to wear a foundation 5X lighter than your skin tone and have it look natural…yet when we see pictures of actresses all over the internet they look so gori and that too naturally…its like ALL the actresses have the same “light skin” tone right when they enter bollywood…is it really the makeup? What’s their secret?

Many of them are naturally very fair though, others, like rani mukherjee,kajol, can really pile on the powder, you can tell the difference immediately even on screen. the body color and face are way different in skintone. so even with lighting, it doesn't really make them 'look naturally gori'

Photoshop, lighting.. Most paparazzi also use a super bright flash, most desi magazines also go crazy with Photoshop to seriously lighten skintones.. Whilst some are oviously pale to start with (Karisma, Katrina etc) and may just use a sunscreen not to get darker some actresses also obviously bleach (creams, lotions, peels, laser).. As an example, Aishwarya Rai was the same colour as everyone else around her in her childhood and teens :D
(Btw one way to tell if a celeb is bleaching or using light makeup is to see them next to a naturally pale skinned person in a pic with a flash.. the bleacher will tend to look unnaturally white (I don't mean like just a pale caucasian) and/or really 'glow' whilst the other will just look normal)
A healthy even skintone is better than just a pale one tho imo..

Bipasha basu... she is LIGHTER now than before!!! i was watching a music channel and it had her earlier song with kareena kapoor in the film and akshay kumar and if you think about her in her last few films lighter skin all over!!

Camera tricks! the lighting makes a HUGE difference.
I know what you mean though, many actresses look lighter (even without makeup) presently than they did when they first entered the industry. Pakistan's paranoid about getting lighter, I'm sure India is too! they probably get full body massages with Fair and Lovely and what not!

Several layers of face paint, lighting of the camera, photoshopping, etc.
Although....they can afford high-end professional pampering/treatment/maintenance of their skin. Plus, since they bleong to a professional predominantly based upon their physical appearance....they're more consicous about maintaining their skin.

omg i knowww!!! i was watching the movie Ajnabee the other day,and omg she was sooo dark!!! and she looks so much lighter now! its crazyy
Also Vidya Balan when she first came to bollywood, she was med/dark skinned…and now she looks soo much glamorous, and her skin tone changed like 10x! look at this picture, her whole body looks so gori!

can facial massages etc. be a reason?....i know some girls that used to be REALLY dark ,and are now pretty fair since they started these facial thingies.....

She doesn’t look lighter at all to me in her own candid photos, only in films and airbrushed media, paparazzi pics taken with a strong flash etc.
In her own normal everyday pics and holiday snaps she looks her ‘normal’ shade.. I know she’s had cosmetic surgery but I really can’t see her lightening her skintone..

The main reason is that they have good skin, which glows,
They don't always look white , but they look beautiful always
they highlight their Positive features by makeup
Camera matters but not much
Makeup brand matters most.
Two red lipsticks of different brands may look like same, but after wearing, we can point out easily which one is of good quality
