how do I save audio cassettes onto laptop plz help

I have win xp and got a cable to attach stereo microphone to pc microphone as advised by store and he said save in recorder ..on pc but it doesnt..
can anyone help I can buy software so plz let me know

You need an 1/8" to 1/8" cable, depending on the outpout of your casette recorder. Then use any type of recording software, even Windows Sound Recorder will do the job, to record the ".wav" file when playing back the casette.

thnax for this info but I have the cable and tried Windows sounder recorder but it didnt...do I need to put cable into microphone port of stereo and microphone port of pc?
plz specify that, I am very grateful I am even prepared to buy software if I know which one or can I get free software via google search but which one as all seem to have demo or trial versions...
I have to save onto pc so I can use quicktime pro to send to itunes for transfer to ipod..I need to save my own dvds of shows I have to do same..
can u help please

but the output of ur stero into the input(mic) of ur pc...

play ur tapes... as u do.. hit the record button on the recorder in xp..

Make sure ur input line is the default input for ur software..if not change that according...

when done reecording..hit the still button,,

save ur file...

throw ur tape out the window..

burn ur file on a cd..!

thanx I got the file printed from adobe #recorder only records for 60 secs so I kept going back but still cldnt listen after saving
the cable the store chap sold me is from MIC to MIC
the out put line out of player requires a diff kind and MIC of my laptop has diff.
so I used cable from player MIC to laptop MIC
plz help once more ...
also I need to save my own videos already on dvds to laptop and convert for ipod ..but I can watch them but cant save in my documents

can u advise plz u re helpful

Samireh1980 download All Sound Recorder XP. Windows Sound Recorder lets you record 60 seconds only. All Sound Recorder XP is excellent tool. Visit their website for more info.
