How did having a child change you?

People say having a baby changes everything.

How did it change you? Postive things… Negative things… (I will never be a size 4 again, constant responsibility)

Re: How did having a child change you?

For sure, babies change everything! My entire being, my entire focus changed from myself and hubby to caring for this new little creature that we created together.

Positive things...HOW we love our kids and would do anything for them. How we need to watch and care about each and every little thing we do because we set the example for our children. And WHAT a joy it is to watch them develop, grow and learn. What a lovely thing it is to see how brothers love each other and take care of each other even at their very young ages. The joy of this is just beyond imagining.

The negatives? Insomnia. Incessant and chronic :( lol

I'll get a good 8 hours in once they're all in college. lol, no wait, then it will be worse cause I'll be worrying about them being away from me. ok so maybe when they get married. no wait, then I'll be worrying about how the marriage is going. :(

I guess i can live with insomnia lol.

mama of 3 - I totally agree - I don't know if I have slept for more than 4 hours in a stretch. Oh I do miss my 10 hour sleep nights

Re: How did having a child change you?

for sure they make u more caring n sacrifizing.u feed them b4 u eat.u wake up whenever they wake up.u laugh with them n cry with them.when my baby was lil n cried like crazy due to colic i used to cry with her.
also they increase ur tolerance level.ppl with lil kids r more calm with mess around them than ppl with no kids or grown-up kids.

Re: How did having a child change you?

Kids bring out the true character in their parents. They teach you things like, unconditional love, patience, responsibility. They are joy and stress at the same time.

Re: How did having a child change you?

Having kids shifts your focus from yourself in a way that in unimaginable, not in the negative sense but in ways you can never think of otherwise. The intesity of love, the attachment, the care, the responsibility, tolerance and the joy is unmatched. Kids are a blessing.

Negatives, very temporary, very short lived.

Re: How did having a child change you?

I developed a huge amount of patience.

I became less daring in my physical adventures, including my driving style.

I developed a huge amount of patience.

I stopped spending money on myself as much as I used to.

I developed a huge amount of patience.

I became much more aware of my surroundings and what was going on in them.

Did I mention that I developed a huge amount of patience?

haha! Even after 10 years I remember that :D

Yes, you did mention patience. I hear ya!

Re: How did having a child change you?

I totally run out of PATIENCE when when my 4 year tells me that "It's not FAIR"!

Re: How did having a child change you?

I also became more god fearing. I have never prayed for anything in my life as much I have done for my kids. especially when they are sick.

Re: How did having a child change you?

Having kids change:

What you eat, when you eat, who you eat with.

What tv/movies you watch, when you watch.

Your schedule for the day

Your grocery habits.

Your sleep

Your career choice

Your financial planning

Where you live

Changes which people you spend time with

The list goes on and on and on... yes, having kids, changes everything.

What did you eat before you had kids that you can't eat anymore?

Re: How did having a child change you?

My daughter is allergic to peanuts, being our first kid, we are/were extra cautious and stopped bringing home any kinda of nuts. She grew out of her alergy to eggs, and for the first three years, even dairy products were banned.

I also started buying less junk food but more healthy often organic, more milk and baby foods. These days kids cereals are a hot commodity for our household.

Re: How did having a child change you?

^ that's nice. We have more junk food. Kids love cookies, ice cream, chocolate, snacks, juice. Stuff that I never use to buy before.
