well, parents like these aren't rare. Most parents freak out at the thought of their kids marrying against their will and it is worse if the kid is planning to marry someone from a different faith or even caste. It is sad but very much true.
Whenever I read these threads it makes me realize how progressive my parents are/were. S they say, you can take ram mohan natrajan out of his village but you can't take the kheti mentality out of his skull.
^ Chal bay. My parents were more progressive than yours. They always told me kay beta jab bhi shaadi karni ho, khud hee larki ko ghar say bhaga kar kar laina. humeiN budhay waaray takleef mat daina kay teray liyay larki dhoondatay phireiN.
Roman shaadi tum chahay jis ki marzi se karo takleef tau sirf bechari larki ko hee ho gi

I think if your parents are controling in certain aspects of your life you can see this coming beforehand. All I can say is get a good education, good job and get the hell out of the house as soon as you can and live your own life.
I've seen even very progressive open minded families completely control their kids giving them very little freedom to make any of the important decisions in their lives.
If God gave you a mind to think for yourself what right does anyone have to take this freedom away from you?
