My understanding was that it is illegal to do this, but maybe things are different in the US.
In any event, trying to justify it because you’ve contributed to the economy by paying taxes beforehand is a weak argument. Paying taxes is not a ‘savings system’ whereby the more you’ve paid allows you to feel its morally acceptable to claim benefits that you shouldn’t be getting at a later date.
