How common is this in Pakistan?

Husband stays in Pakistan, while wife goes abroad to work. The opposite is very common, loads of Pakistani men in Gulf, UK, USA and Australia living without their families. I wonder if it has gotten a bit more common now that more women are in the professional fields.

The one one I ever knew of was wife was on education visa in the US and brought her husband along. I have no idea about details as to how it worked out, and if the husband worked or not.

While I am at this, how common is it for educated Pakistani women now to go work in the Gulf? I imagine lots of consulting, finance and computer related positions are available. Place like Dubai and AD are pretty moderate and have mixed work places, so it must be common there now, right?

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

lol janwar.

this practice is pretty common among Philipinos and Indians. So far it I havent heard this about Pakistani women cuz hum sub shezadian hain. we rather hire maids, then to be one.

So a pakistani woman can only go abroad to be a maid? Seriously.? Lol

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

My cousin went to do her masters on a fulbright scholarship in their first yr - does that count?

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

I know of one, my husbands best frnds wife she first lived in middle east while the husband stayed back in pakistan with the kids. Then they moved to Canada, now wife is living here in canada with kids for last 5 years moving from one province to another to find residency and the husband visits them every 6 months. Husband is not willing to leave his job in pakistan and she says she has worked really hard to be where she is right now.

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

and her husband was understanding enough not to have any problem w/ that?

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

If the case was reserved, no one would even question if the wife was having problems, it would be completely acceptable that she let's him go abroad to study.

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

shakes head

What's wrong with that??

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

I have heard few of such couples. Thing is those people fall out of the spactrum of normal marrage accourding to standards.
Guy don't get his good hormons going while getting marrid like a normal marrages in which guy is being provider or they both are equal grounds.

Before consider it close to normal you got to look at them doing things in long run.

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

Long run? There are Pakistanis living in Gulf who have been living like this for decades!

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

dude, the couple.

I know Filipinos , Sri Lankans and Nepali women do that but they mostly are maids or working in the service industry in southeast Asia and in the Mid East. They send their salaries to their families back home.

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

My then English teacher now married to cousin’s uncle does not live live outside of Pak per se but is always on work trips and conferences. She is highly active in Pak relationship with foreign countries stuff, was a journalist in Dawn, and can be seen on political talk shows from time to time. Shes a gem of a person and a very decent looking lady. I dont understand what makes these highly educated women marry barely matric passed guys :smack:. So disappointed in her decision :frowning:

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

Are you sure you are not talking about a rather well known female politician?

Re: How common is this in Pakistan?

^ if ur talking about Hina Rabbani then no. She always dresses humbly and much more articulate and well spoken. I just googled her and it says shes an expert in Foreign affairs, involved in youth leadership and peace movement, and comes on ARY and Geo as a guest.
