I’m curious how many of us feel truly close to Allah…
There used to be, and in some places still is, a trend to instill fear of Allah within us rather than love for Him.
Are you afraid of Him?
Do you fear consequences of His wrath or do you anticipate His love?
Do you share your thoughts and feelings with Him?
Is He your confidant? Your safe place to fall?
Re: How Close Are You to God?
I love my mother but I do know I’m going to be in trouble if I do something I’m not supposed to do - yes I fear mum’s wrath even at 22 ![]()
So I’m not going to lie, I do fear “Allah ki laathi”, I do fear hell and qabar ka azaab but I also know that He loves us 70 times more than a mother. If we’re turly sorry, He’s the most forgiving.
How close I am to him? hmm.. I feel closer to Allah taala when I do His zikr. During secondary school, I did tasbeehs every morning and I felt closer to Him then than I do now. May be because He remembers us when we remember Him? I’m going to start the tasbeehs again during Ramadan and InshaAllah continue them thereafter.
I am a very private person with regards to displaying emotions to other people and I don’t know who else to turn to but Allah swt so He is most definitely my confidant.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
and do you complain to Allah when you are unhappy about something.........?
Re: How Close Are You to God?
Does it matter how close you feel to God? He isn't there.
Just talk to your imaginary friend. Just as good.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
Thanks sharabee.....obviously it doesn't matter for you......but we are not your imaginary friend.....please go and talk to him/her.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
sharabee, you need to stop wasting your time on these useless religion debates ![]()
Muzna, I’ve never felt so disappointed in life so far (Allah ka shukar hai) that I start complaining to and questioning Him. Like, I’ve never been wronged, so to speak. If I had to deal with some injustice, yeah I would complain to Him, ask for His help, complain some more and do sabr.
I wasn’t a happy bunny when my nana abu passed away but that wasn’t injustice, y’know? I am not happy about poverty, child labour, crime etc. but that’s our own worldy injustice, not His. I wasn’t happy after graduation when I had to deal with several CV rejections for 3 months before I finally got an interview call and a job offer but that was because of my own weaknesses, not His injustice so why complain? Making dua isn’t the same as complaining.

Re: How Close Are You to God?
I'm close to god as much as I'm close to President Asif Ali Ghaddari.

why complain when whatever HE does is for our own good !
You want to complain when something good is happening to you but you comprehend it as bad.

That is the exact point that I am trying to get across.
Some people believe that it is okay to complain to one's friends and/or loved ones but not to Allah.
The way I look at it, complaining/venting/whining is all the same.....doesn't matter who you do it to. At the end of the day should one believe that just because one is not addressing Allah that He is unaware of it?

There is something known as "azmaish". A test/azmaish is usually a tough time in ones life.
Azmaish or test, encompasses our whole life or at times some parts of it. Even lives of prophets were not spared from it, especially the most beloved of ALLAH, Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) went through these tests and hard times in His(SAW) lifetime.
When someone is going to be granted something, he goes through an azmaish set by ALLAH, and can be rewarded by the way he keeps his attitude during that azmaish.
ALLAH is ofcourse all-aware.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
The whole philosophy of Islam revolves around fear of Allah. Quran talks about wrath of Allah at many places, gives examples of Allah's wrath on individuals and nations who digressed from the right path.
Fear of Wrath of Allah keeps us on the right path and hope for Allah's mercy keeps us motivated to stay patient during our tests and trials .
Unconditional Love of Allah is a Christian concept.

God = Imaginary friend :D

Yes....and unfortunately the concept of fear of wrath has not worked well so far.......but I have found that the concept of love does work.
Or maybe its just me........
Re: How Close Are You to God?
very close. not too close to his people though.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
For me, the idea that Allah has ultimate power...the ability to do anything....is comforting, but also scary. He can make miracles happen and He can make your fears come true as well. The belief that He knows everything about you is also comforting and scary. I don't know if that makes sense or if anyone else feels this way....I don't know if it's wrong or natural to feel this way.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
I don't think that it is wrong to feel this way RV. I think that it is natural because the thought that there is someone that knows it all.....absolutely all....is quite foreign to those of us that sometimes keep things to ourselves.
I don't know why but I have never really been able to "fear" Allah. I have always believed that He does not want me to suffer and that he loves me. The challenges that I face on this earth are simply trials that prepare me for times to come or opportunities that offer up a chance to earn rewards.
Re: How Close Are You to God?
It's like that thread about the newborn babies who were able to survive being buried under earthquake rubble.....that's a miracle. And then you read about people who are the victims of horrific accidents and injustices (rape, murder, etc)...things your nightmares are made of. So, it's a mixture of comfort and fear. And I know that it is said that evil is from us........but Allah has ultimate power and control.....and how these views merge together...is tough to answer/comprehend, no?
Re: How Close Are You to God?
but I find that the complexity of it all is over-shadowed by the simplicity.........e.g. an entire disaster can take place.....where there are so many things at play......earth quake, after-shocks, bone-crushing rubble, lack of oxygen, etc, etc so complex.....yet these fragile lives survive it all because He wills it......so simple.
