This is not part of the ‘war on terror’ but a ‘war OF terror’ going back three decades… We see the same tactics used on the Palestinians
collective punishment
targeting defenceless civillians and infrastructure
house demolitions
violation of international and humanitarian laws
disregard of UN resolutions and Geneva conventions
four UN observers (including a CANADIAN) were brutally killed, in the words of Secretary General Kofi Annan ‘DELIBERATE TARGETTING’.
(but Harper felt it was the guys fault for being there!!??)
and also cc your member of parliament using the same name format…
remember, this is a minority govt so every seat comes into play… put your name and address so they know its from an actual constituent… say which riding you live in and how many voters in your household… pls use your own words and message header so it does not appear to be just a mass mailing… that way it will be taken more seriously…
stop thinking about how you feel, tell someone who can do something about it … it only takes a minute to type a one line email (think of how many junk emails you send daily)… NUMBERS COUNT (thats how sucessful lobbies works)… a quick email wont kill you but not sending could kill more innocents
Remember, Harper (who wanted to send Canadian troops to Iraq) is in a minority gov’t so we can deliver a “measured response” in the next election… be sure to point that out!.. In his rush to gain favour with ‘dubya’ he has damaged Canada’s impartiality and international standing.

I am sure any emotional pro-Arab letter writers will have their name posted on the Canadian American border. Next time their fingers will printed in a special way.
The "hidden hands" behind Hizbullah are not subject to public pressure. Iran has now banned the word "pizza" as being un-Iranian. Syria is not a bastion of freedom. Thus the right to freely exercise ones voice is truely a western phenomenon. Go tell Iran to pursue peace in Lebanon and you will likely end up in jail, as many dissidents are in Iran.
Perhaps the protests are then a bit misplaced. Write your Canadian govenment asking for basic freedoms in Iran, and Syria. Just the basic human right to speak freely without fear of jail. Then see if the adventurism of Iran continues to sacrifice Palestinians and Lebanese as cannon fodder in their fight. Tell the Canadian government to allow the Lebanese to determine their own destiny without the meddling of Syria, as is the basic right of any country. I think you will find the conflict solves itself if the Lebanese are not set up by foreign governments to be sacrificial lambs. Lobby the Canadian government to support the Lebanese to determine their own future without armed militias answering to foreign governments, which is the basic right of all citizens of any sovereign country.
Lobby the Canadian government to let the Lebanese be free people, as are the Canadians. Then lets see what they decide.
It's interesting how Harper is alienating Muslims in Canada, which are probably greater in number than Jews, especially in Quebec with its large population of Lebanese Canadians. If his concern was getting votes and a majority government, his Middle East stance would have been much different. I don't agree with his and McKay's policies but secretly I admire Harper; at least for once Canada seems to have a leader who would rather stay true to his principles than concern his every action with getting votes.
Ohioguy, you think there is freedom of speech in Israel and it is a follower of democracy? The Israeli government itself finds discrimination rampant against its Arab minority; isn't that there a repudiation of democracy? America is not very democratic either if its foreign policy is based not on what all people want but what a rich pro-Israel lobby can push for. Oh well, the Muslim lobby is going the same route now. Wonder how things will change as it becomes more powerful and politically savvy than before.
Sure, let's just ignore the treatment of minorities in Muslim countries too. There has been a veritable ethnic cleansing of Jews, Christians and minority Muslim sects in virtually all Muslim countries. But, heck let's ignore that. After all, our goal is a perfect democracy in Israel rather than basic rights in the rest of the world, right?
That's so stupid Ohioguy. Please send Bush an email telling him not to talk about China. He should clean his own littered poop-ed up backyard first. As fond as I am of America, it is no paragon of democracy.
One thing Democracies insist on is basic rights for all. Right? Minimal requirements? You are guilty of extreme discrimination. You have set double standards for white and brown. The whites (and a few minorities) are deserving of the best of the best while the rest languish in less than basic human rights? Who are you to define American Democracy? The US is the longest lasting continous Democracy. Ask the Queen.
Seen any fair elections in China lately? All hail Great China. As long as they sell weapons to Muslim countries, Muslims will forgive anything. But engagement with the US economy will eventually break the wall, just as the Berlin wall fell to Western economics.....
Really? Which Arab country have you lived in? And how long? Please tell. I have had the oppurtunity to live in couple of Arab countries and have been residing in U.S for many years now. I don't think Arabs care about the democracy westerners have been pushing for many years. Why should they? They drive nice cars, live good lifestyles, their governments offer free education, health care, dirt cheap public transportation, free public parks, food stamps, unemployment benefits etc. I think the governments there are doing a good job taking care of their people and people are content with the system. So when westeners see people in these countries not protesting or standing up to their respective governments they tend to think the population has been repressed by force. From what I have seen people revere their kings/rulers. They see their kings/rulers as benevolent and caring people.
Why has the voter turn out always been so low in U.S? Why is that only 50% of the Americans are interested in voting? Perhaps the other half doesn't care who wins the elections, they will be content with their lives irrespective of who wins. I would say 90% of population in Arab countries is like the 50% of U.S population that is not interested in democracy.
Yes, Arabs are subhuman and do not deserve, and do not care about basic freedoms. Screw the Saudis, they are idiots and do not deserve to vote. Hell, Canadian Sarah could barely even drive there. Who cares?
Just for your education, read about trends in freedom, not just in the US view, but world-wide. Freedom is a basic human instinct. But, hell, the Saudi Royal family meets my needs, what do I care if they oppress people, so long as they pump gas? (OOOppps, how many Pakistani house slaves do the Saudis employ?) Never mind.
