Hate is essential.
In order to be Good, you need to hate Evil and those who are essentially evil, for eg. Satan. Satan is evil, and so are his followers from the Jinn and from Men. Hating them is essential.
Hatred for them is derived from the love for Good. The more you love something that is good, the more you'd hate Evil and the advocates of Evil.

So in essence we Love what is Good and hate what is Evil.............both were creation of Allah Subhanahu wa Taala............
What are we to do about "UGLY" which is also creation of Allah(SWT)..?
