Re-apply some butter, perhaps that should work? Maybe try what khalil is saying, you don’t have to dunk the toast in a bucket of water, lol, just a few dashes here and there till the bread is slightly softer than you would like it, stick it in a toaster oven and keep checking on it till it is the way you want it.
