How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

A year and a half ago I got rid of all the simple carbs from my diet. I was HUNGRY all the time, which lasted about a month. But hang in there and replace your simple carbs (rice, roti, tortillas) with complex carbs and proteins. Don't eat just meat either!

I typically ate desi food so what I started doing is making the salans and kararahi with much less spices so that you can eat it alone and have 2 sides with the main, a lentil and a veggie. The lentils are filling. And if you're constantly hungry like I was, just eat more often, but the healthy stuff.

As for the fruit, you may have to start cutting down on the fruit if you think you're getting too much sugar from it. Why are you trying to cut down on the sugar from the fruit? If your body is healthy, moderate sugar consumed via fruits is not harmful. If you don't have health issues that are exacerbated by the sugar in the fruit, don't worry about the numbers too much. And don't get rid of the egg yolk, that's where majority of the nutrition is. Don't count calories or track some number someone out there came up with. Go with how you feel when you eat the foods that you eat and do make changes based on how your body responds. Moderation in everything. I know this based on my personal experience and my education of the last 13 years.

Good luck with your diet!

Carbs are not all that bad.
Don’t stuff refined food in the name of carbs.
If you can make saalan, you can also make rooti too.
Get some whole wheat non treated floor, and make some nice rooti.

Bring some for me too :yummy:

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

These days majority of the whole wheat flour we get is GMO and that makes most people have some sort of adverse effects such as mild bloating which they don't realize because that is how they have been reacting all their lives.

If you search, you can find non GMO, organic wheat flour. But it is a good idea to give up gluten for a while to see how you react to gluten.

What do you think about aatta imported from pakistan or india.

I know, I think, india did not accept gmo, and pakstan have it for cotton crops and stuff.

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

I was in Pak for one month and despite eating Roti for lunch as well as dinner, I lost a few kg. Had a lot less bloating too. Definitely felt much better in general. Decided it was either the flour or perhaps even water as over there was drinking mineral water and over here just tap water which has loads of crap in it.

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

prepare you meals ahead of time. I go for the BAD carbs when there is nothing else in site.

  • breakfast: Eggs anykind, spinach omelette, avoid juices, green smoothies
  • lunch: allow your self to eat healthier crabs earlier in the day.
  • dinner - stick to grilled chicken, lentils, beans, a big salad

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

eat more salad, fruits, soups, less rice/pasta/bread

Re: How can I get more protein and less carbs in my diet?

monk makes a lot of sense in this thread. well not the walaiti chicks stuff..

carbs get a bad rap in the western pop media. educate yourself about the true nature of food, and not from magazines, not from sheeple of all kinds of fads like atkins or paleo. eat clean, eat like a human. you'll do well.

india may not have accepted gmo, but the lands where wheat is grown in india is so saturated with chemical residues, the ground water is undrinkable in a lot of regions. i'm not so sure that crops grown there are all that good for you.
