Re: How a Muslim Billionaire Thrives in Hindu India
Education in Karnataka has been a mess with the Gokak Commission’s ban on English as a medium of instruction though in recent years there has been much improvement because of the software industry’s large investments there. Speaking of education, Karnataka produced the late Ahmed Beevi who later became the Secretary for Education and was such a respected person that when she later moved to Nellore to be with her nephews (she never married) people would take their footwear off when they walked past her house.
Speaking of education, it was also a Muslim who worked hard (despite not being well educated himself) to start the process that later made Kerala such a powerhouse of education - the first Education Minister in that state, C K Mohammed Koya. In Tamilnadu, the Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women in Chennai is considered one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning there and the Crescent Engineering College in Vandalur is another very prominent institution. And these are a drop in the ocean - there are many more.
Since I grew up in the west, I didn’t know about these great Indians that have done so much to promote education there and thanks for the info on them. I hope more people like them are produced in India :k:
