As requested by Muzna, some pics from my digital camera at the largest gathering of desis that Texas has ever seen, an estimated 25,000 came out on Saturday, a day after tragedy struck the South Asian continent, and many stayed at home, hoping to hear any word from their family back at home. Houston’s celebration of India’s Republic Day was a great success, and a great thing for the community. I would have had pictures for the parade, but since I was on a float, I couldn’t really take pictures. When I find some, I’ll post them here too.
Upon entering the Convention Center, one was greeted by this rangoli:
"With the VHP" is a bit too strong. I think it's better to say that I help the VHP with activities I think are beneficial to the Hindu community. I am not a paid member of the VHP per se, but there are things they do that I like (like youth summer camps, etc.), and some things I don't like. I help whereever I feel I can help, as long as it doesn't clash with anything I particularly believe in.
The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh royally upset me this week. I am definitely not gonna be associated with them anytime soon.
