salam guyz,

i’m goona be moving to houston with my husband inshallah.. But we aren’t sure where to buy a house, like what are the good areas to live in? Are there any neighbourhoods where lots of pakistani’s live that are nice or desi areas?

What about driving, we heard the traffic is crazy but being pakistani we don’t really mind! Would really be great if anyone living in houston could guide on where to buy a house, good neighbourhoods and buying a car when we get there too! Thanx:)

A good neighbourhood with lots of Pakistanis is Sugarland.

It's a city very close to Houston. 10 or so years ago it used to feel like a seperate city, now it almost feels like a neighbourhood.

yes i just did some research it looks like all desi's live in sugarland! so what are the good neighbourhoods in sugarland and what is the average price for a home?

I wouldn't know that, sorry. That area is relatively new though.

If no urgent need, you guys should rent for 6 months to a year before buying a house, so you can scout out a good area in/around Houston. This is also a good idea considering the housing market slump, which may not be effecting Houston too much but still.

if you are moving there for job reasons then look for areas close to the job location. If thats not the case then as ahmad said rent if for 6 months and then look around which areas suits your needs

thanks for the advice. how is the traffic i heard it can be really terrible? that would be a factor as well i dont wnat my husband commuting 2 hours every day just because of slow moving traffic

The Traffic can be horrible and I am sure none of our wives want us to commute 2 hours everyday. Take it step by step

Arrive in Houston > Get an Apt. close to work > Check out the daily rush hour data from houstontranstar > get a place after a couple of months.

btw - where is he going to be working, location/company?

Memorial Drive has some pretty nice houses.

If you are living in Sugarland and working in Houston, you get the worst of both worlds. You get stuck in incoming traffic while going to Houston in morning and you get stuck in out going traffic while going to Sugarland in evening! Living wise, it is pretty good.

Check Stanford as well (close to Sugarland). There is even a Northern Indian restaurant with buffet lunch in Stanford.
