So I am meeting my inlaws this weekend and I want to take something nice as a present. Fiance is useless to ask because he just doesn’t know anything about his mom’s taste in anything. So guys, what do you I should take for a nice gift? I was thinking of giving her a nice shawl but still, I am lost about what to get them as one big, nice present.. maybe crystal bowl or something?

crystal bowl- i dunno about them but man desis do this crystal thign too much.
how about getting them a flower bouquet of the month thing, where for a year they get diff flowers each month, or do it for 3 -4 months. or they have othger such things where they get different fruit basket each month.
with different decor styles, choices, its tought ot give someone something like vases and frames etc.
they may even prefer if the gift is that you paid someone to help clean the place thropughy once they have settled in.

oh sorry, they didn't buy a new house, i am going to their house for the first time. lol. and they live in miami so they don't need any heaters definitely. and no no, shawls were just a personal 'side' gift for the mother in law.. i need one MAIN gift that would kick ***.

Shady, just get a nice shawl for your MIL, a nice flower bouquet with a some good chocolates will do it. I don't think that at the moment you need to do more then this.

Please NO crystal bowls and other crystal crap unless it's a realllllllllly unique piece. They are so generic and unthoughtful.
As someones suggested, go to potterybarn, crate&barrel, etc. and you will definitely find something for the house there. Also take flowers. For the MIL, shawl is nice.

Just a nice big bouqet of flowers and a bottle of sparkling cider for group toast would be good enough. I think flowers for months might be a bit too much.

that is if you know fairly well what someone likes. otherwise the stuff is a waste of money, it never gets used. I had boxes full of unwanted stuff that included stuff that was given as formality and stuff that was given sincerely, but it just does not work with what I have.
an extreme example..I have a really overstyled gold frame with a gold book with ayats on it from someone, not only is it 180 degrees different than my style, I have no room in the house for such a large piece..I dont even know what to do with it. cant pass it on to someone..so it just sits collecting dust.

Like Sara said, you dont need to take anything more than a cake or flowers. If you want to do something that they will remember, get a really really nice cake from the best bakery in town. In my exp people always remember good food.
