Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Do you have one? Any tips or tricks to keep things neat and clean easily?

I got married a year and a half ago, but only have been living here full time for the past six months (studying abroad). Its getting better but sometimes house stuff still feels overwhelming on top of studies, going out, family visits, basically life.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

You mean cleaning as in mop, vaccum n stuff?

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

That too, but mostly the en of day clutter/disorganization. Basically, what I'm wondering is: how clean is clean? Us your place clean/guest ready almost all the time?

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

being organized is the key, everything needs to have its own place and should not be competing with something else. Then having some routine/process is another factor that will help.

with those two in place, rest is minimal..but most ppl dont do a good job with the first two.

Housekeeping/cleaning routine

How clean is my place?...Well not at all ready for guests all the time.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

-Number one rule that I like to follow- don't hoard stuff, things that you don't need get rid of them asap rather than keeping for another day (day that may never come).

-Put things back in their place soon as you are done using them to avoid clutter.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Spend 15 min at he end of the day to reorganize/quick clean things that will save you couple of hours on the weekend.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

gud. i myself try to keep the things at their order , but how could be clean well from dust, my furniture uffffffffff yar itni dust, even floor any suggestion ??

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

amaya best thing to deal with dust is to keep a few dusters in different places .. and do the cleaning saat saat .. like when you are going upstairs just hold a duster and do a quick dusting action while going upstairs .. another day when you are coming downstairs do the quick dusting ....

similarly keep a duster in the living room ... just before sitting with your cup of tea , take two quick minutes to dust out the place ..

When you got to the kitchen , while fixing dinner , just clean out all the counters and cupboard doors ...

and every weekend take out extensive cleaning time to mop/ brush/hoover the home... shouldnt take you more then half hour...

I have several brushes and dusters spread around the house .. and I try to manage the cleaning in bits .. jidar sai guzro thora thora safai ker do ..

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

My advice:
the mantra-a place for everything, everything in it's place. That would help you organise.
Have a place for all paperwork, and have somewhere where you put all bills/appointment letters so you don't forget them.
Have designated areas for things-e.g. only eat in the dinning area to reduce stuff going into other areas.
Have proper organised wardrobes-clothes sometimes equal clutter.
IKEA is fab for organisational stuff.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Thank you guys. I have the organization down, was chaos for a bit after unpacking but good now. So basically it's just about getting into a routine and small bits every day = less stress.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

YEAP, CB hit the nail on the head. A little everyday will keep the stress levels at bay :-)

Although once kids are in the equation (well for me anyhow) it isn't always possible to clean on the go. But that's a separate thread!

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

you see sometimes it can be made so simple … Before taking a bath , I just do a quick clean up of the seat and the sink and the tub … and after I have taken a bath , the mirrors get a bit misty due to the moisture getting trapped in the bathroom , i utilize that perfect opportunity by quickly cleaning the mirror and the wall tiles .. and finally a quick mop on the floor … hardly takes 15 minutes !

Similarly, with the dishes, I cant for the life of me stand in front of the sink and do the dishes for a long time .. so I dont push myself .. just before making roti , when i need to wash hands , I just do two of three glasses automatically washing off my hands :cb: … then all through the day when i am passing my the sink full of bartan , I keep doing them little by little … end of the day I just try to get the spoons done … it helps coz i dont get bored and work gets done too little by little …

similarly , when I am taking some fruit out of the fridge .. takes me a split second to wipe clean the shelf … if I were to wait for the day that I would be cleaning the whole fridge , that day would never come ! at least this way things keep getting cleaned !

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Usually do light cleaning (fix the bed/pick up clothes/wipe up bathroom counters/pick up books and papers) everyday, takes like 10-15 mins out of my day. But on Sunday it's hardcore. I always keep the kitchen clean as a whistle everyday though.

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Baji... aap ki dusters ki dukaan hay?

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

^ hai nai, but soch ri hoon karobaar acha hai :omg:

Lazies like me find it easier to clean if the dusters are spread around the house … werna excuse mil jaata hai , not to do safai , kon duster donnday , phir laaye and then do the cleaning :barbie:

Re: Housekeeping/cleaning routine

Home should be neatly maintained with the furniture.Every corner should be kept clean and neat as the furniture gives the great look to the house. Vacuum cleaner gives the good cleaning effect.
