DESERT HOT SPRINGS: Hours-long standoff ends when officers realize suspects aren’t home - Press Enterprise

A standoff that lasted more than 12 hours ended Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, when Desert Hot Springs police and Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies realized the suspects they were looking for weren’t at the home they surrounded.

Officers responded at 10:55 a.m. Monday to a home in the 66300 block of Sixth Street, believing that a suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon investigation was at the home.

“Officers believed the suspect to be armed and dangerous, and barricaded within the residence,” Desert Hot Springs police officials said in a news release.

Officers “received additional information” that a second person, a suspect in a shooting that occurred last week, was also inside the home.

That’s when the Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT Team was called in to assist with the situation, the news release said.

After an hours-long standstill, the SWAT Team searched the home, only to realize the suspects weren’t there.
