legbreak, the bay area CheG is trying to push is the worst part of northern california (still beats uk though) unless you are a code coolie - in which case there is no better place on earth.
if climate and lifestyle is what you seek, there's heaven further north or east. hell, even portland beats the bray area.
BTW, I didn't know South Bay was the worst place in Bay Area...Never occured to me that Oakland, East Palo Alto, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Antioch, Vallejo, Hayward and host of other relatively undesirable places have made enormous strides since the "bust" in curtailing crime and congestion and have eclipised Silicon Valley as better places to live...

San Diego is a nice place as well, probably the second best place to live in California...there is a huge Navel Base (biggest on the west coast) there as well...

I read in the paper today that its gonna keep raining for the next 10 days and not to expect any decent weather till at least the 2nd week of june!
