Hospitals in Pakistan

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

I have experienced all Govt hospitals, Military Hospitals and private hospitals. Most of them don’t treat you with any tiny smile on their face usually. They are best on ***technical grounds *** only. Yes, The govt hospitals offer best medical care to our citizen and mostly free of cost. But people never mention anything good or never say a word in favor of these facilities or surgeon , professors , doctors who are working there.

I am talking about Mayo Hospital. Have you ever visited that hospital ?

If yes then please dont explain me the quality of services. Explain me the standard of technical facilities in that hospital. They have dedicated department for treatment of complex cases ( burn , bones , blood ) which other expensive hospitals in the city dont have.

The hospital is attached with a historic medical college. The staff of hospital is highly qualified and experienced professors and surgeons.

On non technical ground, the hospitals are not good in Pakistan. You can stay in Peal continental , Holiday Inn or Avari. They are good :k:

Btw, in Govt hospitals, the girl doctors are Hot and cute. I feel their pain when i see them standing there and doing duties for 18 hours straight ( male and female both) writing patient reports :frowning: wo bohat thak jaati hain bechari

In Military hospitals boy doctors are handsome :smooth:

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

Hey Barbie, true, they are under a lot of pressure, hubby's grandma, behji, she had to have an operation and it meant moving her to a different hospital (owned by the same guy though) which was supposedly a VIP hospital, more expensive so shouldve had better standard of care. only difference between it and the first hospital was that the rooms had tvs and heaters in them, and in general the hospital was much less busy, i believe there were just 2 people admitted there, one of them being behji. it was in this hospital where doctors and nurses would come and leave without even giving us an update on behji.
my dad in law felt bad at upsetting them lol, he said we shouldnt make the poor angry and so went and gave them some money. there was actually a sign in the reception area instructing people to report any helpers asking for money though.

It's more than one expeirence, not just this expeirence with behji, but in general my opinion from having visited different doctors and hospitals over the last few years.
I'm sure there are definietly some good hospitals and good people in this profession out there, just havent met any of them yet.

Totally! we actually complained about the nurses taking their time to attend to behji, they werent even busy either, they were actually just down the corridor in an office reading magazines or playing with someone's child. when we would ask them to come and see behji, theyd take their damn time doing it. once we complained to the doctor that owned the hospital, the nurses came more regularly but one of them was really angry with us and actually came storming into the room to argue with us. after this each time she came into the room she came wearing an angry expression.

lol yeah i agree with what you said about visiting hours, during the day we'd have loads of visitors. i dont know if there was any policy in place about the number of people allowed in the room, there didnt seem to be.

this was supposedly a good and also private hospital, maybe we just had bad luck, dnt know.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

I think perhaps you didnt read my original post properly, or yiu didnt get it.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

I had the occassion to spend two nights in a major Karachi hospital when Noor was just under 24 months old and suffering from nausea and dehydration.

It was the worst 48 hours that I have spent in a medical facility.

The hygiene was abominable. The toilet in every room was filthy and don't even ask about the one in the general ward.

The bedside manner of all attending was rude at best. It was as if we had caused them such difficulty by becoming sick!

On the morning of the day we were to be released I stopped one of the doctors doing rounds and, in the most Canadian accent I could muster, asked if there was a formal process for filing a complaint about the treatment we had received there. I told him that I was born in this country and was ashamed that the people here were being mistreated and abused by those whose duty and obligation it was to heal them.

He showed genuine concern and asked one of the nurses that were with him to get him a writing pad and pen. He asked me to write down my grievances and describe my experience. Ironically the nurse that was asked to do this was one of those that I needed to complain about.
The doctor returned to my bedside after his rounds and took the long letter that I had written with him. He apologized for the behaviour of the attendants and hoped that I would not judge the hospital by this single bad experience.

I had a follow up appointment two weeks later in which the attending doctor, not the one that did the rounds, examined my daughter and then went on to mention casually that, "Did you know that two nurses were fired from their positions as a result of your complaint?" Her tone was one of resentment; as if I had been the cause of someone being without a job. I told her that I was sorry to hear of it but obviously the administrating body of the hospital agreed with me on how paitents should be treated.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

^ That’s what I’m talking about! :k:

We need to step up and let them know of the problems otherwise they’re never going to be resolved.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

thats horrible muzna, sorry for your bad experience, thats what i mean though. a lot of the doctors and nurses come across as really arrogant, completely cold. and if you dare complain about them they think you're evil! Every hospital should put their patients first, i havent seen it in pakistan though :(.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

Health services are horrible in Pakistan due to a lack of funding and facilities. That is all. In Islamabad they don't even have their own syringes for patients. Its basically lack of attention from the government.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

yaar tum itni lambi lambi mut chora karo

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

True, which makes it worse i guess, cos the hospital behji was in was actually a really new hospital, with good facilities. it was more the staff that were the problem than the facilities really.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

unfortunately most doctors in pakistan are doc's because parents want them to be...
hospitals are bad regardless of private or gov.if you know someone then you will get vip treatment...
unfortunately most pakistani;s have the I am bechara attitude....
there are nice people some doc are humble and loving and caring but they are in the minority....

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

You should get your facts straight before posting anything. On top of my head I can tell you Sindh Institute of Urology is doing liver transplant since last 5-6 years. I am sure there are other hospitals too. Why people travel to India? Basically because of 2 reasons

1) Cheap treatment
2) No shortage of donors.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

and from what my husband tells me, doctors with no morals and sticky fingers.

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

^ That’s true. When I was there and we took Ami for her first dialysis session in Pakistan, I learnt how to attach the lines to her catheter so I was wearing my gloves and cleaning her catheter.. the doctor just plugged the samosa he was eating into his mouth and said “rehnay dein mein karta hon..”

:hayaa:

Re: Hospitals in Pakistan

^oh man. i really shouldn't lol but it's so ridiculous. hugs to you for taking such care of your ami.

although, but sticky fingers i did mean pilfering hospital supplies. nice to know they take it in every sense :|
